March 2009
We'll admit it took us a little while to
warm up to The Mentalist, airing Tuesdays on CBS, probably because of the
name -- it sounds as if we might have to do actual thinking. Couple that with
the fact the lead character is a dude named Jane with a penchant for
three-piece suits, and this had "yawner" written all over it. But now we've
seen the error of our ways, and we're hooked like a grouper on some chum. So
call your friends and neighbors; we're thinking about throwing a party!
Even though it's only been on for a few
weeks, Castle, airing Mondays on ABC, has us wrapped up in its wacky banter --
a la Moonlighting from the '80s -- and unique twist on crime solving. By using
a world-famous mystery writer, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), as part of a
crime-solving duo with NYPD Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), the show
breaks down crimes backward, like a novelist actually might. It's weird, it's
witty, and it makes us debate joining a book club.
It just goes to show that even if your
dreams do come true -- as in waking up one morning with superpowers -- the
government will somehow ruin it for you. But if you are a fan of Heroes, airing Mondays on NBC, rest assured you will learn just enough to keep your
cheerleader outfit blood-soaked but wearable. So give me an H! Give me an E!
Give me an R-O-E-S! What's it spell? (Give us a second to think ... ). Call the
neighbors; we're throwing a Heroes party! Woo hoo! Go, Asian time travelers!
It's a cast you can't help but love: the
A-list of C-listers. In fact, some of these people actually had our respect at
one point. Of course, that's all a distant memory when you watch The Celebrity
Apprentice Sundays on NBC. Joining The Donald in the boardroom are everyone
from Tom Green and Khloe Kardashian to Dennis Rodman and Scott Hamilton. In
addition, there are Andrew Dice Clay, Joan and Melissa Rivers, Clint Black, and
Jesse James. Throw in a case opener from Deal or No Deal (Claudia Jordan), a
Playboy Playmate (Brande Roderick) and a few other head scratchers, and this is
easily the most watchable thing from Trump since Ivanka.
