'The Vampire Diaries' takes a bite out of my expectations

I think you know my television pet peeve is when I'm able to play predict-a-plot. You know when ten minutes into a crime drama, you say "that's the killer" and you turn out to be right. Or to pick a very current example, you think you already knew what was up with the new neighbors on...

  I don't think my life would be good as a sitcom. Oh look how hilarious it is that she sits at her computer all day long. Isn't it funny how sometimes she doesn't shower until 3 o'clock because she's so busy writing? What about her addiction to seltzer water and dark chocolate? That's comedy gold!...

I love this time of the year. My favorite shows start to return (oh how I missed "How I Met Your Mother." I can't wait for you all to see the season premiere). And the new season offers such hope. There's the promise that somewhere out there lurks the next "Lost" or "The Office" or...
