Your 2009 Amy Awards Winners

The results are in. Thanks to the thousands of readers who voted in the 2009 Amy Awards. Like I've always said, if we were in charge of the Emmys they would be so much more fun.

As we discussed, I did not include "Skip this question" in the winning totals, although the option did prevail in four out of the 12 categories (as noted by an asterisk below). By the way the photo to your left is because Josh Holloway got the most votes out of any category. How about that James?

Highlights of the Week Ahead

All times listed are Eastern Standard Time for June 22-June 28

I know sometimes many of you are concerned about my maturity level since I do tend to watch shows aimed at teenagers. So you may want to skip this paragraph. For everyone else, let's discuss "Make It or Break It," the new ABC Family drama premiering Monday at 9 p.m. On the ABC Family scale, I would say it's much better than "The Secret Life of the American Teeanger" but not nearly as good as "Greek" (but really what could be as good as "Greek?"). I've always loved gymnastics (even though somersault was the beginning and end of my gymnastic prowess) and the competitive world of balance beams and back flips is the perfect setting for a teen drama. In tonight's pilot, Emily (Chelsea Hobbs) comes to The Rock, a training gym in Boulder, Colorado and immediately disrupts the world and the rankings of the other gymnasts who have working their whole lives to compete in nationals. I loved Cassie Scerbo as the bitchy Lauren Tanner. Lauren is kind of every single teen mean girl rolled into one and Scerbo plays her perfectly. You won't see much of Candace Cameron Bure in tonight's pilot but you will see a ton of other familiar faces including Peri Gilpin ("Frasier"), Erik Palladino ("ER"), Rosa Blasi ("Strong Medicine"), and Brett Cullen (we just saw him on "Damages"). I found the use of stunt doubles distracting -- you see a lot of feet during the big sequences -- but I'm not sure what can be done about that. I think by the end of the episode, you'll be wanting to come back for more. Three and a half out of five stars.

You can tell me. I won't judge. Are you planning on watching Jon and Kate's big announcement tonight on "Jon & Kate Plus 8" (Monday, TLC, 9 p.m.).

So are you still watching "Nurse Jackie?" I still like the show quite a bit but I'm having trouble accepting that Jackie would be able to keep the fact that she is married and has children from everyone at the hospital but her best friend. It just kind of seems logistically impossible that no one would find out. I'm also hoping the show explains soon why Jackie keeps this secret (besides of course her affair with the pharmacist). Tonight Jackie finds out that her direct line to painkillers could be replaced by a machine at 10:30 p.m. on Showtime.

So you know for a long time I've feared that "Gossip Girl" was actually based on reality. Well here comes a show that proves it's true. "NYC Prep," premiering at 9 p.m. on Bravo, follows really rich teens in Manhattan who seemingly have nothing to do but shop, dine and text on their blackberry. The show is edited like a cross between "The Hills," with the awkward stilted conversations (pseudo reality) and "The Real World," with sanctimonious addresses to the camera. When watching I wondered how long until these kids would look back on the show and be embarrassed by their behavior. I'm thinking in five to seven years they'll be trying to buy the original footage from Bravo. It's laughable when senior P.C. (who, by the way is decidedly not P.C.) says " They're juniors. There's definitely a lot they need to learn." Or when Camille, who has had a private shopper at Barney's since she was 13, that she treats her clothing like her children. The show made me sad more than anything else.Two stars.

"The Cleaner" is back for a second season Tuesday at 10 p.m. on A&E. The premiere has great guest stars including Whoopi Goldberg, Gary Cole and Jayne Brook (who we saw this season on "Private Practice" and "Brothers & Sisters" where she played Scotty's mom). But I find the show almost impossibly dark, depressing, and preachy. The show practically screams "we're doing something important here people" at the viewer. Certainly drug addiction is a grave topic but William Banks (Benjamin Bratt) is almost too much to take. In addition to dealing with addicts whose lives are falling apart, William is also now separated from his wife (Amy Price-Francis, who we saw on "24" this year). Last season, William's dreary demeanor was offset by his team. This season Kevin Michael Richardson, who I really loved as Darnell, is off the show (sans explanation I believe) and we see very little of Grace Park (Akani) and Arnie (Esteban Powell). William's team will take a back seat for much of the season in favor of more time spent on the addicts and their family. Two episodes in and I think the show worked much better as an ensemble. Three stars.
