I See Dead People and I'm Not Happy
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
"House" has got to be kidding me. I'm having some sort of post traumatic TV stress disorder reaction to the idea of House talking to Amber. Did we not suffer enough with the whole Izzie/Denny fiasco? Was I perhaps not clear about how I felt about that storyline?
Listen up all you TV executive producers and writers: I'm so over characters seeing dead people. You simply have got to stop this nonsense. You have to let the dead rest in peace. The only shows that have exceptions to this edict are "Lost" and "Rescue Me."
And I refuse, that's right I refuse, to sit back and watch "House" destroy Amber the way "Grey's Anatomy" took one of the show's most beloved characters and just decimated him. Denny went from dreamy good guy to a creepy, annoying, ghost stalker.
Could House talking to Amber (another character I just loved) turn out to be a decent story line idea? Perhaps? But I fear that I'm too traumatized to give the storyline a chance. Usually I try to keep an open mind when a plot lines come my way that seem questionable. I try to let them play out before I reach a level of hysteria. But I can't do that this time. I'm already in complete panic mode.
Okay I'm off to breathe into a paper bag and try to regain my composure. What did you think of this week's "House?" Talk about it below.
Well Monday night was a rough night for FOX dramas. I know on "24" anyone can be revealed as a turncoat at any time and, in its best seasons, the show has completely shocked us by revealing the traitor we least suspect. And maybe I was only surprised because of my love forTony. After all he was able to roam Starkwood pretty freely and he did start off this season confessing to having done some bad things. But I was still so sad to see that my Tony is this year's big bad. Tony, Tony, Tony really has done it again. Unless maybe he's a double spy? Or is that just my denial talking.
And as for Kim, her reunion with her "daddy" was surprisingly touching and believable. I've really liked this storyline that has allowed Jack to be more vulnerable. Kim will be back next week and I'm okay with that.
Just a few other thoughts on "24:"
1. The show has got to stop inadvertently revealing who will be killed next. The combination of Renee telling Larry they had a lot to talk about and Larry apologizing for having to take Tony into custody simply screamed "I'm not going to make it to next week's episode!"
2. I am totally (as you know) willing to suspend my disbelief for this show. But it did occur to me last week that Janice can remotely crack a security code of a Starkwood warehouse and remotely open the door in the time it takes for my computer to shut down.
3. We need more Chloe and we need more Chloe now. The show isn't the same without her.
What did you think of this week's "24?" Talk about it below.
"The Office"
Okay I'm with everyone who kind of feels like "The Office" is off its game this season. To me they've kind of been on downward slope every since the Super Bowl episode. But I do really like this story line that has Michael forming his own business -- especially because I think he has a chance at being successful. We've learned to never underestimate Michael.
What's also been great about introducing Charles (Idris Elba) is that we are getting to see Jim from another perspective. He is suddenly an incompetent employee who can't do anything right.
I'm kind of all set with Ryan as a character and the bit about both Kelly and Angela obsessively flirting with Charles is growing old fast but in general I think this was a smart direction for the show to go in. How about you?
Where Have I Seen Them Before?
Robby, Dennis and Kelly recognized a little bit of "The O.C." reunion happening on "Southland." Taylor Handley played the kid who got pulled over by Ben at the beginning of the episode (he was the one who said he would have Ben's father represent him). Handley was Oliver on "The O.C." (all together now "boooo!"). He was also Patrick on "Dawson's Creek" and Johnny on "Hidden Palms."
Dennis also caught Emily Bergl as Sammy's wife on "Southland." She was Annie on "Men in Trees" and I'll always remember her as Rory's frenemy Francie on "Gilmore Girls." And Patrick Fischler has been everywhere this season. He's Jimmy Barrett on "Mad Men," Phil, one of the Dharma initiative employees on "Lost" and a cop on "Southland."
Mal recognized Diana Scarwid as Alice, Angela's younger sister on "Heroes." Scarwid was Karen on "Wonderfalls," Jeannette on "Prison Break" (remember she was living in the house the money was in and T-Bag flirted with her) and Mother Superior on "Pushing Daisies."
Ryan recognized Joshua Malina as Agent Alldridge on "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." He was Will Bailey on "The West Wing" and Jeremy on "Sports Night." And you'll see him soon on the second season of "In Plain Sight."
Roger Bart was the consultant Liz tried to seduce on "30 Rock." He was Bree's fiancé George on "Desperate Housewives."
Anne recognized familiar faces were all over "CSI." Erin Daniels, Dana on "The L Word," and Charisma Carpenter, Cordelia on "Buffy" and "Angel," were skydivers. And Greg Germann, Richard Fish on "Ally McBeal," was George, as in the Church of the Holy George.
Diane recognized Ryan Sypek, Junior on "Wildfire," as Ted's intern P.J. on "How I Met Your Mother."
Jeanine caught Aldis Hodge, Hardison on "Leverage," as Azi on "Castle." And let's not forget he was Ray 'Voodoo' Tatum on "Friday Night Lights."
Lindsay McKeon was the patient's wife on "House." I'll always remember her as Katie on "Saved by the Bell: The New Class."
That's all for today. I'm back on Friday to discuss the return of "Prison Break," the second season premiere of "In Plain Sight" and with this week's quotes of the week. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Talk to you on Friday.

I have to say, I don't mind the Amber thing on "House" nearly as much as I HATED Dead Denny on "Grey's Anatomy." "House" has always been best when it's been slightly trippy, and having House hallucinate is nothing new. Denny came out of nowhere and never fit in with the vibe of the show. So, I'm still with "House."
That said, if House starts having sex with Amber, I'm outta there.
I think an un-dead Amber could be a lot of fun. Of course, I also think a House-Cuddy romance would be fun, so I'm not necessarily in sync with the rest of the crowd here.
I think this is part of Tony's "deep cover" revealed earlier. It is funny, for all the acclaim this year's 24 is receiving, I am really annoyed by the time things as well and find it hampers my watching the show (e.g. "Call the Joint chiefs" before the break and they are all ***embled at the end of the break.)
Ummmmm Amy? I love your column however you forgot to talk about something very important. Maybe you just haven't gotten around to it on your TiVo but....Donna Martin (graduates) came back!!!! I thought we were going to talk about it! =)
Amy, my stomach took a turn seeing Amber as well, i hope they don't screw that up...but i was not happy about it either!
Also so happy Rescue Me is back! It is great so far!
And finally, yes, The Office is definitely off it's game this season, last week's episode, i barely found humorous at all...
Amy,
I thought you might talk about Donna Martin too but more importantly, don't you know anyone, anywhere that can tell people at 90210 that the product placement is the worst I've ever seen and it really, really turns me off! Blech!
PS. I'm with you on the no more dead people...
I have MUCH more faith in "House" getting Amber right than "Grey's" getting Denny right. It's in House's character to hallucinate (like when he was shot or when trying to figure out what happened on the bus when Amber died) and he learns from his hallucinations. It's being used as a plot device, not as a way to bring a previously popular character back with no clear purpose. Don't fret. It'll all work out in the end.
I have to concur with Andrea too...the product placement on 90210 was overkill! It was almost annoying...no wait, it was ANNOYING....
You're right -- I haven't gotten to 90210 on my TiVo yet. (Remember I was in the House That Technology Forgot). But I'll talk about the show on Friday.
Thanks!
Aldis Hodge was also Jake on Supernatural.
