I have such a crush on 'My Boys'

Kylehoward_jordanaspiro_myb Nothing you can say can tear me away from "My Boys."

I've given this a lot of thought and I'm officially ready to declare "My Boys," which returns with new episodes next Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. on TBS as one of the three funniest comedies currently on television. ("30 Rock" and "How I Met Your Mother" are my other two).

P.J.(Jordana Spiro) and her bevy of boys who are friends, but not boyfriends and their adventures are quite simply so much fun to watch. You feel like you could hang out at Crowley's and have a beer with them. Tuesday's premiere picks up right where we left off with Bobby (Kyle Howard) declaring that he's afraid he's marrying the wrong woman. Now of course I'm not going to tell you what happens next (that's not how I roll) but I can tell you I loved the episode. Too often shows can get stymied in the will they or won't they endless cycle and "My Boys" has successfully avoided this pitfall. That's because the show doesn't need the P.J./Bobby romance to hook viewers.

I love show because I can't stop laughing while I'm watching it. Whether it's the boys have a mustache growing contest or organizing a stake out to figure out who P.J. is dating, their antics are hilarious mostly because they are rooted in the believable camaraderie that exists among the characters.

I can't wait for you all to see Tuesday's premiere. After you've watched the show, let me know what you think and talk about "My Boys" below. Also, what do you think are the three funniest comedies on TV right now? I'm curious because humor is very subjective -- what makes you laugh might not make me laugh and vice versa. Talk about it below.

Party Down

You're going to want to watch tonight's episode of "Party Down" (Friday at 10:30 p.m. on Starz).

Rob Thomas ("Veronica Mars," and the upcoming "Cupid") is one of the show's executive producers and you can tell. The show is chock-full of "Veronica Mars" alums. Ken Marino (Vinnie Van Low on "Veronica Mars") stars as Ron, the leader of a hodge podge team of the Party Down caterers in LA. Everyone working as a caterer wants to be something else. Casey (Lizzy Caplan) wants to be a stand up comedian. Kyle (Ryan Hansen, Dick Casablancas on "Veronica Mars") wants to be an actor. Roman (Martin Star) is always trying to give someone his latest screenplay. Only Henry (Adam Scott) has decided to stop his quest for fame after not being able to capitalize on his previous success.

In each episode, the gang caters a different soiree and tonight Jason Dohring and Alona Tal (Logan and Meg on "Veronica Mars") guest star as two members of the College Republican Club hosting an event in honor of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Last week Enrico Colantoni was their client and Kristen Bell will guest star on an upcoming episode. Watching the show is like getting invited to a reunion.

In addition to playing the fun game of "spot the 'Veronica Mars' star," the series is definitely amusing. I've always known Marino is talented but it's a real treat to see him play such a different character -- uptight Ron is desperate to make his team behave because he one day dreams of owning a fast food franchise. The rapport among the characters is effortless -- you can tell they are having a good time.

You can get a look at tonight's episode here and here. After you've watched "Party Down," let me know what you think.

Quotes of the Week

"A 12 year old Ben Linus brought me a chicken salad sandwich. How do you think I'm doing?" Sayid to Sawyer on "Lost." Thanks to Toby who was the first to submit this week's most popular quote.

"Mom. Slash? Really?" Serena after seeing a list of people Lily slept with on "Gossip Girl." Thanks to Katie for the quote.

"I'm not who I am. I'm not a cheater." Addison to Pete on "Private Practice." Just keep telling yourself that Addison.

"I miss the me I was with us." Amanda to Betty on "Ugly Betty."

"I know you have this whole Angela/Tony 'Who's the Boss' thing going on." Horatio to Jane on "In the Motherhood."

"Tell me the truth you freak. Did you move us here to hurt Mike Delfino?" Edie finally figuring out the truth about Dave on "Desperate Housewives."

"He'll throw the kindle at you." Topher on "Dollhouse." I wanted to include this quote because it is reminiscent of Joss Whedon's clever dialogue we've all been waiting for the show to have.

"Getting into someone's mind and trying to find the god-awful thing that happened to them that made them do the god-awful thing to somebody else has seriously impaired my ability to giggle and it makes my brain all wonky and I don't like it." Garcia to Hotch on "Criminal Minds."

"You know, together like you guys were. I thought it was kind of obvious. Who couldn't see that coming?" Hurley telling Kate that Juliet and Sawyer are together on "Lost."

Exchange of the Week

"How does Sierra make you feel?" Dr. Saunders to Victor on "Dollhouse."

"Better." Victor's response. Thanks to Wendy for the quote. Wendy found this exchange quite intriguing since the dolls, in theory, shouldn't have any emotions at all.

Thanks all for today. I'm back on Monday and we have a lot going on. "90210" returns with eight new episodes in a row, "Greek" is back for another season, "Cupid" premieres, "Life on Mars" and "ER" say goodbye, and more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week or a topic for discussion? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Have a great weekend. Talk to you on Monday.

i just love your blogs Amy!!

I think I have to pick top 5 comedies

in no particular order

Big Bang Theory
30 Rock
How I Met Your Mother
My Boys
Scrubs

I know Scrubs is far from perfect but I really do laugh out loud when I watch

3 best comedies on tv

30 rock

Big Bang Theory

Simpsons

I love My Boys as well. And HIMYM. Tried to watch In the Motherhood last night. It was TERRIBLE.

Best Comedies:

Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
My Boys

Notice the similarities, all three have strong cast members from top to bottom and don't have to rely on one person to carry the show.

Worst New "alleged" Comedy:

Roommates (ABCFam) Not funny, kept waiting for something funny but it never came.

Anyone else have thoughts about Roommates?

Top 3 comedies:

Big Bang Theory

Scrubs

The Office - more so for the supporting cast now than the regulars

I thought of Chuck, too, but even though I think it was originally billed as a comedy, it's really more of a drama. However, Jeffster's Buy More antics often have me giggling, so...call it a runner-up.

It's hard for me to pick top three comedies because several of the shows that I find most amusing don't exactly fit into that category since they're hour long shows (Chuck, Reaper, and the late, great The Middleman, etc.) but here goes:

My Boys

10 Items or Less

How I Met Your Mother

with honorable mentions to The Office and Big Bang Theory.

Favorite Comedies:

1. Psych (always laugh aloud)

2. My Boys

3. 30 Rock

4. Scrubs

5. 90210 - not supposed to be funny - but come ON! - it is freakin' hysterical in that "so campy it's funny" sort of way - like Xena, Warrior Princess was.

I love the Office, but I never laugh alond. Mostly, I cringe and hide my eyes.

I totally agree with you, Anne. My top five are the same (Big Bang Theory, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, My Boys, and Scrubs). Scrubs has been up and down, but I still laugh a ton. I think this season has been a return to form - not completely, but at least some.

Great column, Amy. I enjoyed Party Down last week and I'm excited for it tonight!

Yeah, Roommates was DREADFUL. I had to juts turn it off. It was really hard to watch something that bad.

I'm sad that My Name is Earl isn't that good any more. I still laugh at a lot of Joy's antics, but it's soo not the same.

I'm liking Better off Ted so far too. I'm surprised I could even think of so many comedies to discuss, because I don't normally think there is a great deal of them, but there's a lot on right now I guess.

Top Three Comedies:

1. 30 Rock
2. United States of Tara
3. Better off Ted

May be unfair to include Better off Ted on the list but the first 2 episodes have cracked me up like no other.
