It occurred to me that this season with Annie (Shenae Grimes) on 90210, Meredith on Grey's Anatomy and Dr. Brenner of ER, it's kind of raining annoying characters on TV.

And then I started thinking back to when you all really didn't like Connor on Angel but I always kind of liked what he brought to the show. And there's a mobilization against 13 on House but she really doesn't bother me. I realized that one woman's plot twist is another's annoying character.

Here is a list of the characters who have really gotten on my nerves over the years:

Lucy on 7th Heaven: Somewhere along the way she went from cute pre-teen, to shrill way-too-young bride.

Calistaflockhart_ally Ally (Calista Flockhart) on Ally McBeal: As with Grey's Anatomy, the title character is the reason I always had a love/hate relationship with this show. The fluttering and carrying on was just too too much.

Kimberly on 24: It seems cruel to bring up the cougar again, but I will. The problem became even worse when the show improbably made her a CTU agent.

Paulo and Nikki on Lost: It wasn't necessarily their fault but no one was believing that they had been on the island all along and we just hadn't noticed. Besides, Paulo lies.

Taylorhandley_hiddenpalms_cw_240 Oliver (Taylor Handley) on The O.C.: A character we loathed so much, the phrase "jump the shark" almost was replaced with "Oliver comes to town." In many ways, this was the beginning of the end for a show I adored.

These are some of my most annoying characters. What are yours? Talk about it below.

Quotes of the Week

"She's like a human Macarena. Something everyone did at parties in 1996." Liz about her friend Claire (Jennifer Aniston) on 30 Rock.

"You were her fiancé? Kind of a Quantum Leaper?" Dr. Chen to Eli on Eli Stone. And, no, I don't want to talk about rumors that this show has been cancelled.

Adambaldwin_daybreak_s1_240 "Upset that Bartowski found himself another piece of asset?" Casey (Adam Baldwin) to Sarah about Chuck's ex-girlfriend being back in his life on Chuck.

"I don't want to fight over Dylan or Ryan or whoever. I'm over all that drama." Brenda to Kelly on 90210. The look on Kelly's face after Brenda told her she slept with Ryan was fantastic.

"Want to see some real high caliber acting? Well Mr. Kurt Russell, you are about to be served." Michael about to pretend he likes Toby on The Office.

Jackmcbrayer_30rock_s2_240 "What would this country be if our economy didn't allow the wealthy people to take advantage of rubes?" Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) to Jack on 30 Rock.

"Be careful Lily the world absolutely needs woooo girls. If there were no woooo girls there'd be no girls gone wild, no bachelorette parties, no Las Vegas pool side bars. All the things that you hold dear Lily would be gone. The souvenir shot glass industry would collapse, so would the body glitter industry, and the stretch hummer rental industry. Tiny cowboy hats would only be worn by tiny cowboys. And when 'Brown Eyed Girl' would come up on the jukebox, all you would hear would be silence . . . and 'Brown Eyed Girl,' but who would woooo Lily? who would woooo? Would you? Would you, Lily?" Barney on How I Met Your Mother. Thanks to Brian for getting that ENTIRE quote down.

Exchanges of the Week

"You really don't remember? One year ago today, you, me and Sophie went to Central Park. Sophie was riding the carousel. We were sitting on this little bench." Danny to Elena on Without a Trace.

"Oh my gosh...yes...yes..yes..and you said to me, 'Elena, I love you.' And it was the first time." Elena's response.

"Elena, I still love you." Danny to Elena. Thanks to Jen for the exchange which made Elena/Danny fans everywhere soooo happy.

*****

"Drinking at work." Marshall to Barney on How I Met Your Mother.

"We're basically Mad Men." Barney to Marshall

"We are such Mad Men." Marshall to Barney

"I'm going to go smack a secretary on the ass." Barney to Marshall

"That's totally what they would do on that show." Marshall to Barney

"What show?" Barney to Marshall

Some Fun Links

There's a new The Office webisode up, check it out here.

You can get a sneak peak of tonight's episode of Ghost Whisperer (Friday, CBS, 8 p.m.) by clicking here. By the way, the producers of Ghost Whisperer are saying you'll still be seeing David Conrad 99% of the time on the show. Does that make you feel better about a certain plot twist?

That's all for today. I'm back next week with a look at all time favorite familiar faces, processing what's happening on Grey's Anatomy, quotes of the week and more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face or want to nominate a topic for discussion? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Talk to you on Monday.

Sad to hear that Dirty Sexy Money is circling the drain but not surprised. The show hasn't been nearly as well written as it was last year. That Nick and his family have been entirely consumed and corrupted by the Darlings made the Georges far less compelling characters.

I'd say Christina on Grey's Anatomy is far more annoying than Meredith. I mute the TV when she comes on.

I would nominate the entire cast of Greys. McWhineys, the bunch of 'em.

Hey Amy,

Way to go--Including "ER" in your column again. Are you taking my request seriously?? More "ER"!! The Idea of an all "ER" column sounds Grandisimo!! What do you think?? Thank you very Much!!

Pietro (and yes, I also wonder what will happen to me after February '09)

As far as I am concerned every single one of the characteers on Grey's Anatomy is annoying. I stopped watching it two seasons ago when I realized I didn't care what happened to any of the characters. Talk about no redeeming qualities whatsoever...

I'm so heartbroken over the demise of Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and DSM that I can't contribute anything of value to today's post. Oh, well. They'll be joining Wonderfalls and Firefly in my treasured gone to soon tv on dvd collection.

I love Ghost Whisperer and I ***umed (him being a star of the show and all) that we'd be seeing David Conrad a lot more than the guy he's supposedly inhabiting now. But still... What total whacko decided it would be an improvement for Melinda to make out with a dead husband rather than a live one? It's Ghost Whisperer, not Corpse Whisperer.

It's interesting how people watch shows and complain how annoying the characters are or the plot is. I simply stop watching. House, 24, Grey's and Lost come to mind immediately.

I'm so heartbroken over the demise of Pushing Daisies too. Such a wonderful show and I really can't believe Amy, that you don't like it? Is it possible to move PD to some other network?

I think it's a combonation of actor and character but I'm pretty sure I would like HIMYM far more if Ted/Josh Radnor didn't come off as such a poor man's Zach Braff. Segel, NPH, Hannigan, Colbie Smulders are all fantastic and can carry the show. And I like all the new interns on ER but I can't get over how much Dr. Brenner(AKA Poor Man's Simon Baker) kills it for me. Especially last night's episode with the creepy child moelestation plot-line.
