Make no bones about it -- thoughts on this season of 'Bones'
Let's get the Bones debate started.
Since last week's premiere, I've received so many emails about the show and it appears you all are very divided.
On one side, we have those of you who think the show is off to an excellent start with the right mix of humor and sexual tension between the two lead characters.
On the other, we have those of you who aren't on board with the assistant of the week theme and think that the show has become way too goofy.
I'm kind of in the middle but leaning towards the latter perspective. No matter how delighted we are to see Carla Gallo (Lizzie on Undeclared) again, the rotating replacement for Zack is all too familiar. Didn't we just go through something similar with House? The break up of Angela and Hodges seems forced and a way to create drama where we don't really need it. And the banter between Bones and Booth is often too silly. I love the addition of Dr. Sweets but I really want the show to give him more to do besides awkwardly fitting him into the "solve the crime" scenes.
Don't get me wrong, I still like Bones and think the show has one of the most likeable casts on television. I'm just not sure I'm on board with what's happening this season so far.
How do you feel about this season of Bones? Talk about it below.
Quotes of the Week
"I love drama. Remember when Locke blew open the hatch finally." Cappie to Rebecca on Greek .
"I think there's a lot of self delusion happening today." Michael Kors about the low scoring designers on Project Runway.
"I have internet access and a pregnant sister. I know where babies come from." Ashley to her dad on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
"We had a lot of history in high school. Didn't see each other for awhile and then hooked up one night four years ago." Kelly to Ryan about her son's father on 90210. This confirms it in my mind. Dylan McKay is so the father.
"Excellent, let's make some LSD." Walter to Peter and Olivia on Fringe. Now this was my favorite quote from the season premiere. The delivery of the line just cracked me up. And TV Gal reader Varris was the first one to guess that this would be my favorite quote.
"The only thing better than a cow is a human, unless you need milk then you need a cow." Walter to Peter and Olivia on Fringe. Based on the many, many emails I received about this quote, my guess is that this was YOUR favorite quote. Thanks to Barry who was the first person to submit the quote.
"She made Waldorf rhyme with Spears." Blair to Serena about Catherine on Gossip Girl. Thanks to Mal for the quote.
"I love you. I love you and you love me." Cameron to John before he takes out her chip on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Thanks to Wendy for the quote.
"You don't screw another man's wife. You're garbage, and you know it." Jimmy to Don on Mad Men.
Exchanges of the Week
"He can hold his breath for three minutes down there!" Temprance discussing her lover, a deep sea diver on Bones.
"Underwater?" Booth's response. A little racy for the 8 o'clock hour but it is this week's most popular exchange. Thanks to Ryan for the quote.
"Are you familiar with how confession works?" Priest to Brenda on The Closer.
"I'd say so, yes." Brenda's response. Thanks to Stewart for the quote.

You can watch a preview of Supernatural's season premiere here and here.
Ask TV Gal
On HIMYM, does Barney have any slaps left? I think 2, but am not sure. Do you know? Tracee
You're right Tracee. The original bet was for five slaps and on last season's Thanksgiving episode, entitled "Slapsgiving," Marshall slapped Barney for a third time, so he has two slaps left. I can't wait for the return of How I Met Your Mother on September 22.
That's all for today. Don't forget that FOX will air a sneak preview of the 24 movie that premieres in November Sunday at 8 p.m. before reairing the series premiere of Fringe. I'm back on Monday to discuss the season premiere of House and much much more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com.

Haven't aired Bones yet, but I will soon. Fringe wasn't as bad as I thought it might be - I'm going to give it a chance. I like TSCC. and while I thought the Cameron Begging scene was a little over the top the season premiere was still pretty good.
Also, after rewatching the entire first season. Chromartie's Metal head is clearly shown arc through time in the first few minutes of the episode after the pilot. I was right about this when I first saw it and I confirmed it with this watching. It is a big mistake on the 'no metal not covered by flesh comes through. Rule.
I'm torn about Fringe, I think. I hope it picks up when it's got less time per episode. I thought the premiere dragged a bit and found myself bored in the middle. But I like the premise, and I did laugh out loud at the LSD line.
Sarah Connor Chronicles, on the other hand... Wow! That show is amazing!
Off topic... Amy, do you know when the premiere of Reaper will be? I've tried Googling it, and I come up with nothing.
Reaper is a midseason replacement so the CW hasn't announced a second season premiere date yet. I'll keep you posted!
Someone posted on another board they thought Jake Hanson could be the father. I think that would be a good out if they can't get one of the originals guys back (and ***uming they can get Grant Show) but I totally want it to be Dylan!
I'm torn on Bones. I like some of what's happening and I still love the show, but...
1. I'd be more willing to buy the Angela/Hopkins split if there was some indication of - what? - fall out? Discomfort? Emotion? As it is, seems almost like nothing happened.
2. Not a big fan of the way they're dealing with Zack's departure is annoying - virtually no reference to it AND the rotating ***istants thing. THAT needs to be settled and soon!!!!
I thought Bones had a good rebound this week from the season premiere, which I didn't find as enjoyable.
I'm thinking that the Angela and Hodgins storyline will sort of connect in with the whole Zach thing. There was this big betrayal with Zach that no one has really gotten over and those two break up over trust issues? That seems connected to me.
I think Sweets has a small crush on Bones because of what her said about her being beautiful or something along that line and it was like he had drop her a hint and she didn't pick up on it during the exchange, maybe Booth did. I don't think the phone call between Sweets and the recent ***istant who had been fired was just a ask her out phone call, he's up to something and it going to involve her with something to do toward Bones. I know it's hard to find a replacement for Zack but the one person who comes to mind is the actress who played the daughter on "Grounded for life", she did do an guest appearance on NCIS not too long back and seem pretty shape minded in her role on that.
BONES is a casual view for me and while it has been a breath of fresh air for the often tedious crime genre, it too easily turns into fluff.
It is clearly a cast-driven show, which means they better get that part right because as a whodunit its crediblity is marginal. Eviscerating characters, leaving major issues unexplained, and having Booth and Bones go in what seems like circles is not the ticket.
I'm still quite enjoying Bones. What annoys me about the show is the 'one step forward and two steps back' aspect of Booth and Bones' relationship.
My favorite exchanged for the week also came from 'Secret Life' (I don't remember the exact wording):
"Ashley was conceived in a graveyard!"
"That explains a lot."
