How much do we love the Emmys? Let us not count the ways . . .

Laurengraham_gilmoregirls_240_002_2 Somewhere along the way many of us officially broke up with the Emmys.

And now we feel apathy for the annual TV award show. The yearly fete has disappointed us too many times for too long for us to treat the show as having any significant validity.

Not even the love the Emmys showed for Mad Men this year was enough to win me back. It was the utter lack of attention the Emmys showed for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, especially when it ignored the ground-breaking episodes such as "Hush," The Body," and "Once More with Feeling," that finally made me think, "you know what I'm all set with the Emmys." Add in never nominating Lauren Graham for her work on Gilmore Girls or Kristen Bell for Veronica Mars and I finally realized that the Emmys and I were not compatible. If we were on eharmony.com, we never would be matched up.

Now of course I will still watch the Emmys (Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC) because I do love award shows. I love watching the red carpet arrivals, hearing the inane questions posed to the actors (so when they killed off your character, how did you feel?), and there's nothing quite like an acceptance speech from someone who thought they had no chance of winning. I love the gushing, over-the-top, you really like me, thanks mom speech. It's such a perfect joyful moment for the winner that I can't help but get caught up in it. It's totally one of those I'm happy to see someone else so happy moments.

Neilpatrickharris_howimetyourmoth_2 And I'll secretly admit to you that there are still some parts I really care about. This time, I really want to see Jon Hamm win for Mad Men and Neil Patrick Harris win for How I Met Your Mother. Their performances are fantastic, they are both in the best roles of their careers and they've both been in the industry a long time and deserve the recognition.

Are you broken up with the Emmys? What was the moment that made you break up? Are there some individual awards you still care about this time around? Talk about it below.

Quotes of the Week

"It's like watching Mary Poppins on crystal meth." Sage about Megan on Privileged.

"Do you have any cocaine?" Walter to his son Peter when he calls him about a woman in cardiac arrest on Fringe. I think you guys are right. Walter is the perfect candidate to always have a quote of the week.

"I've been holding on to a life on this farm that hasn't existed for years." Clark on Smallville.

"I would never do this to you. How could you do this to me?" Betty to Don on Mad Men.

Robertseanleonard_house_s5_240_2 "We're not friends anymore House. I'm not sure we ever were." Wilson to House on House.

"I know. I should look like a 'Thriller' video reject." Dean on Supernatural after spending four months in hell. Thanks to Sandy for the quote.

"Duck, Crab...Crab, Duck." Roger doing introductions at Don's dinner party on Mad Men. Thanks to Wendy for the quote.

Exchange of the Week

"What the Hell is that?" Dean to Sam as he slides behind the wheel of his Impala after escaping hell on Supernatural.

"That's an iPod jack." Sam to Dean.

"You were supposed to take care of her, not douche her up!" Dean. Thanks to Lanie for the exchange.

Ask TV Gal

Raymondcruz_thecloser4_240_2 Please tell me that The Closer isn't killing off Detective Sanchez! As soon as I saw him featured in the "Previously on The Closer" clips, I knew he'd be the one in jeopardy. Damn season finale cliffhangers! And how many episodes are they doing in January? They never used to come back again until June. Thanks! Kathy

I checked with my friends over at TNT. They wouldn't say what would happen with Detective Sanchez but they did let me know there will be five new episodes of The Closer in January.

That's all for today. I've postponed my talk about the CBS comedies until Monday so I'm back on Monday to talk about premiere week including the season premieres of How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory (I think I've officially become a fan), Grey's Anatomy, the new CBS series The Mentalist, and we'll check in on how we think Fringe is doing. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com.

I kind of always thought the Emmys were a joke, and most awards shows for that matter - I absolutely detest the Oscars. But if there is a specific example to give about why I lack respect for Emmys, it would be its lack of acknowledgment of Buffy and Joss.

I really don't enjoy the Emmy's. I much prefer the Amy's.

Maybe this is morbid, but the only part of the Emmys or the Oscars I enjoy watching are the "In Memoriam" slide shows of actors / actresses who have died in the past year. I like the "Oh, geez, he died?! I *loved* him in...".

Although, this last Oscars even that was ruined for me by the addition of random crew members no one's ever heard of (no disrespect meant to them or their families, of course) and the omission of Brad Renfro. What the hell, Academy?

It came on gradually like the steady drumming of a baseball bat up the side of my head. No deal-breaker, just a prolonged disappointment at no love for the shows I loved. I watch it for the fashions and hair styles mostly. I never watch it in real time so I can fast forward through annoying parts.

Lauren Graham is famous for submitting the wrong episode for Emmy consideration. In the last season she submitted the episode in which she threw Michel a pet wake rather than the "I Will Always Love You" episode! I think that goes a long way to explaining why she was never nominated.

The Big Bang Theory (I think I've officially become a fan).

Welcome to the club Amy! In our household, BBT, was easily the freshest & funniest show from last year.

I fell in love with the Emmys when "The Monkees" won for best Comedy. Became totally disgusted with them when Buffy was so monumentally slighted and have never watched since. I always check the results the next morning and there have been occasions that I've thought that they got that one right ("LOST" best drama first year out) but overall the reaction is that it's still the same old trite nominees mostly and the same old winners. The thing that aggravates me worst of all is how all the special guest star awards always go to "movie stars" who are tapped for sweeps eps and the real working actors whose names we really don't know that guest star (and give much better/less showy performances) are always overlooked.

"Duck, Crab...Crab, Duck."

So silly, but ABSOLUTELY hilarious in the context of Mad Men. Hope they kick as at the Emmy's!

I'll watch the emmys for the fashion/red carpet. I've been "over" them since they started (and keep on) nominating and awarding Boston Legal and James Spader awards, while p***ing over Lost, Friday Night Lights, etc.

Welcome to the ranks of Big Bang Theory fans, Amy! It's one of the very few good comedies on TV now. I was glad the writer's strike didn't damage its chances of continuing and I can't *wait* until Monday!
