Can the season premieres live up to our expectations?
The new fall season kicks off September 1 with the second season premiere of Gossip Girl. On September 2 those of us still speaking to The CW will tune into the new 90210. And I'm thinking you all should send me your predictions right now. I'm drawing a line in the Peach Pit -- do you think the show will be a hit or a flop? You must chose (and no you can't chose "me"). I'll count your votes and let you know who thinks what right before the show premieres. My heart still says "hit" and I want to follow my heart but my gut thinks "flop" -- maybe even colossal flop. The kind that becomes legendary. The bad idea we still talk about years later (think Cop Rock). Email me and let me know what your fearless prediction about the fate of 90210 is.
On Wednesday September 3 we'll have the season premiere of Bones. FX is premiering its new series the Sons of Anarchy on September 3 and TNT has its new series Raising the Bar on September 1. Entourage is back September 7. Phew. That's just the first week in September. So get your rest now kids because September is going to be a busy month.
I'm making my way through the shows. I'll have more to say when our beloved series actually return but I didn't love the two-hour season premiere of Bones (which sends the dynamic duo to London and dismisses the big Zack reveal far too casually. I'll tell you right now, you're going to be annoyed) but I absolutely loved the first two episodes of House (which directly addresses Amber's death and the ramifications her death has on the entire team).
Both Bones and House didn't necessarily end their seasons on cliffhangers but did end their seasons with much to address when their new seasons began. So all of this got me thinking about what season premiere was the biggest letdown after waiting for months for a show to return. Not the season but the actual season premiere episode. In recent memory, the second season premiere of Prison Break immediately comes to mind. Right from the start, I thought, "yeah this isn't going to work." The backlash against Grey's Anatomy really took off with last season's premiere. That's when I realized the show really wasn't going to let the Gizzie romance go.
What season premieres of returning shows were the biggest letdown for you? Talk about it below.
Quotes of the Week
"She does whatever she feels like with no regard at all." Peggy's sister about Peggy on Mad Men.
"It's a pterodactyl out of a gay Jurassic park." Tim Gunn about Blayne's outfit on Project Runway.
"I keep thinking it's like a sad chicken." Michael Kors about Keith's design on Project Runway.
That's all for today. I'm back on Monday to talk about the second season premiere of Greek and much much more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Have a great weekend. Talk to you on Monday.

My biggest gripe about season premiers is when they answer too many questions. Finales often do a great job of setting up cliffhangers and potential story arcs that could easily take a whole season to resolve. However, some shows answer all those questions in the first hour or two of the season and are left floundering around in search of a story arc throughout the season. Smallville is notorious for this.
Sorry to be this guy, but it's spelled "pterodactyl."
OK, probably doesn't count but the biggest season premiere letdown was the one that never was - Veronica Mars end of season 3 (after season 3 lackluster plotlines) set up a wonderful mystery for season 4, which we never got. Not to mention we probably wouldn't have even if they had a season 4 since it was later pitched to jump ahead a la Desperate Housewives and have VM in the FBI academy (which I saw a clip of on YouTube - also looked like it had potential). Very heartbreaking, *sigh*.
Wait, I have another season premiere letdown, also probably not what you were looking for, but season 2 of Ugly Betty - when I found out Santos was still gone, I cried all over again. I was SO hoping he was alive. I guess that makes it good television, but I still felt letdown, just in a different way than you mean, Amy.
Hey MarcDom7 - Be that guy anytime! Thanks for the correction.
Amy
Prison Break's Season 4 begins September 1st with a 2 hour episode. It didn't make Amy's list of premieres listed in the article. I know a lot of viewers were disappointed with last season, but I'm willing to give it another chance since Sara's back.
Are we not talking about the bomb dropped on EW.com about the conversations between Kristin Bell and Rob Thomas concerning a VM movie!?! I just don't know if the premise will translate to the big screen, but I certainly have missed Logan Echolls.
I'm thinking that 90210 will be a FLOP. But, then again, I never learned to treasure 90210 until it was shown every Sa****ay and Sunday morning on FX in syndication. Maybe I'll learn to love the new kids.
I just have to put this out there: AVOID Raising the Bar like the plague! I saw the pilot and it is literally one of the worst hours of television I've ever seen. PAINFULLY bad.
Also, I don't think 90210 will be a huge hit OR a huge flop. I think it'll do similar numbers to the rest of the CW's lineup. Which means it will only be considered a huge flop if people are expecting it to save the entire network...which sadly it looks like they are.
Yes, I'm thinking the new 90210 will be a flop as well. Without Aaron Spelling, I don't see much hope.
To me the most disappointed season premiere was Alias Season 3 (I think?) when we got the non-resolution of cliffhanger that Sydney had been missing for 2 years. I was stunned by that cliffhanger and then utterly let down by the season premiere.
