Amy Award Nominations . . . Let the Voting Begin
I'm feeling a little Paula Abdulish today.
Stay with me, I'll explain.
I've spent the past couple of days reading through all your nomination emails, crunching the numbers and calculating the five nominations for each category. The result is I'm a little bleary eyed and loopy. And I'm really struggling to talk coherently. Give me a hair extension, a glittery outfit and some flashy jewelry and I could go as Abdul to a costume party. I would say that I've made the Awards my own but that's so not true.
These are your awards. You came up with the categories. You came up with the nominees. And now you must vote on the winners. Thanks to all of you who took the time to email me your nominations. I had so much fun reading through your picks and I learned quite a bit. Some things I already knew (yes the Winchester boys are hot) and some were complete revelations (you're kind of mad at Smallville and a little conflicted about the whole Rebecca is not a Walker on Brothers & Sisters. That easily was one of the nominees for worst plot twist but also was a strong contender for best plot twist).
So without further ado, click here to vote for the 2008 Amy Awards. You have until next Friday, June 27 at 5 p.m. EST to vote. After you've voted, talk about the nominations below.
A quick note, you do need to submit your email address to vote (it's one way that helps prevent duplicate votes) but Zap2It does not share your email with any outside party.
Fun Friday Activity
Since I know you guys are kind of excited about the new ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager (premiering July 1), I thought you might enjoy taking this quiz. What kind of teenager are you? Click here to find out.
That's all for today. Thanks again to EVERYONE who sent in their nominations. Don't forget to vote! You guys are the best. I'll be back next week to talk about the plethora of game shows premiering and much much more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week or a topic for discussion? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com and let me know.
First time in my life I've gotten a first comment! Hooray!
Potch | Jun 20, 2008 11:33:37 AM | #Is it wrong that I kept looking for an "all of the above" instead of the "none of the above" buttons? LOL
Kristen | Jun 20, 2008 11:52:33 AM | #I don't remember the voting being in this format in the past. I only remember having to email in votes (although I may be crazy, and this has been the method for years). Anyway, thanks for making it so easy!
K | Jun 20, 2008 12:10:47 PM | #Thanks for the fun.
alia | Jun 20, 2008 12:23:57 PM | #I just can't wait to see the results!
Nik | Jun 20, 2008 12:25:34 PM | #Yes, Amy, voting was supereasy this time - thanks! But on that note, unlike Kristen, I kept wanting to click on "none of the above"! Did anyone else? I actually started clicking on some I didn't even really want just so all my answers weren't "none of the above." I think Amy pointed it out well though, a lot of the ones on "best plot twist" I would put under "worst plot twist" and vice versa to an extent. In fact, my original nomination for worst plot twist was under best (moving the island on Lost)! Ah!
AndreaC | Jun 20, 2008 12:25:59 PM | #Yes the ballot is great, isn't it. A big thank you to the wonderful tech people at Zap2It -- especially Andy, who made the ballot so easy to use. Yay Andy!
Amy Amatangelo | Jun 20, 2008 12:29:56 PM | #I can't believe Georgina Sparks didn't make either Best Villain or Best Guest Star. Gossip Girl ain't my most favorite show on TV, but I have to admit that Trachtenberg's guest appearance and the character she played was a much-needed shot of adrenaline for the show.
Sean | Jun 20, 2008 12:44:15 PM | #a lot of my nominations are there, yay!!! especially Farraday as best new character. All my votes are for anything LOST. Best. Show. Ever.
michelle | Jun 20, 2008 1:05:16 PM | #Tina Fey was nominated enough to be in the top five!?!? Really!?!?! That must be women voting for her because they like her (kind of like how women think Sarah Jesicah Parker is hot even though the has a face longer than Big Brown).
If Tina Fey sees this column, she is going to write that fifteen more guys are head over heals for Liz Lemon even though they really wouldn't give her the time of day.
Dan H | Jun 20, 2008 1:32:41 PM | #Hey, is anyone else watching Fear Itself? The show keeps getting better every week.
Dani | Jun 20, 2008 2:13:48 PM | #funny dan cause *I* think SJP is f'ugly (with a fantastic bod) and my boyfriend thinks she's hot as hell but too skinny.
go figure
sassinak | Jun 20, 2008 3:53:47 PM | #AndreaC, I agree with you. Out of the 16 categories, I answered "None of the Above" for 10. Wow, I know I don't watch most of what's covered in the column, but I didn't think it was that drastic. It would have been a lot more if it wasn't for Eli Stone and James Marsters. :)
Judy | Jun 20, 2008 3:54:36 PM | #Oh, and Dan, I'm not nuts about Sarah Jessica Parker and, in fact, cannot stand Sex in the City. And I'm a 31-year old woman.
Judy | Jun 20, 2008 3:56:32 PM | #Thanks for including "None of the above" this year, although I actually didn't use it very much.
I thought that "Jim doesn't propose to Pam on The Office" was more of a non-event than a "heartbreaking moment."
And while I liked both of the Lost twists, the Lost moment that really shocked me was when they tricked us with Sun's flashforward and Jin's flasback. (I voted for Robin and Barney, which I did not see coming).
*facepalm* That should read "Sex *and* the City." This is what 8 hours of editing does to you.
Judy | Jun 20, 2008 3:58:32 PM | #Amy, what are you smoking? These were the worst nominations ever! I clicked on none of the above so much, I felt like I shouldn't even participate. I don't think TV was that bad this year, I just think you are watching the wrong stuff! I don't even care to see who wins these things!
Christy Lee | Jun 20, 2008 6:18:12 PM | #Next year, can we have a 'It's A Tie' choice? There were a few I thought were in a dead heat in the nominations....
Weiss C | Jun 20, 2008 7:05:08 PM | #I totally wanted an "all of the above" button for some of the questions. This tv season sucked!
Rachel | Jun 20, 2008 10:07:39 PM | #I was clicking 'jim beaver' as the best recurring character when I clocked James Marsters' name. So conflicted, but I had to go with Spikey. So I would vote for a 'its a tie' choice too! :)
Leighannah | Jun 21, 2008 4:53:21 AM | #I am glad there are other people who are tired of American Idol too. I just want to see the day that show is finally canceled.
everwood | Jun 21, 2008 7:50:55 AM | #I want to echo how easy it was to vote. My only conflict was in best new show. I gave it to Eli Stone but seveal other shows were just as worthy of my vote.
Jesse Jackson | Jun 21, 2008 8:38:04 AM | #I agree with Kristen,
All of the above would have been a great choice, especially the watercooler category..
Hello??? what about Jim Halpert on the Office. I would marry him in a second!
Kristine | Jun 21, 2008 10:09:23 AM | #I'm with Kristen - I love and watch everyone of the best new shows so it was really hard to pick just one. Why have "none of the above' and not "all of the above?" Just to be fair...
