Flowers in the Walker's Attic . . . let's discuss 'Brothers & Sisters'
I don’t blame Rebecca on Brothers & Sisters.
As evidenced by my column on April 18, I totally want to be a Walker. So if I actually was a Walker I would be hesitant to give that up.
I actually found it quite believable that Rebecca would lie about the results of her DNA test. We’ve seen this type of behavior from her in the past (see kissing Joe last season). Before I go any further, let’s also acknowledge Emily VanCamp’s terrific performance. She’s created a character so complete and nuanced that I totally forget that I’m watching the same actress that played Amy Abbott on my beloved Everwood.
Now on to the, as you all so perfectly dubbed it, the de-Walkering of Rebecca. I’m just not convinced this was a great direction for the show to go in. Although there is some good dramatic fodder to be garnered from this revelation (what will Nora think? How awful does this make Holly?), I feel like they primarily went in this direction so they could pursue some semblance of a Justin/Rebecca romance.
But I don’t think they can. I think it’s too late to turn back and reset their relationship. We’ve watched them as, well, brother & sister for nearly a year. And even though we now know Rebecca isn’t Justin’s sister, the whole thing is still, to put it technically, kind of icky. I don’t really want to think about Justin having romantic feelings about someone he believes is his sibling.
You know I love this show so maybe they’ll be able to convince me otherwise, but right now I’m, that’s right, not picking up what the show is putting down. How about you? Talk about it below.
Ask TV Gal
I know Wildfire isn't a show you usually talk about but I'm going to ask anyway. They're billing this new season as the Final Run but not actually saying it is the final season. Do you know if it is or not? Chris
Yes this is the final season of Wildfire. The show will have its series finale on May 26. And I got some fun information from my friends on ABC Family. Ryan Sypek, who plays Junior on Wildfire, will guest star on Greek on May 26 immediately following the series finale of Wildfire.
Hey, I LOVE that The Office seems to be moving in the marriage direction for Jim and Pam – I bet they will be the spin-off series…Fred.
Okay this wasn’t really a question, but I love this topic because NBC is planning on an Office spin-off next season. I’m wondering if Fred is right. Last week the show certainly seemed to be moving in the direction of separating Jim and Pam from the rest of the group. But are they too big of characters to spin-off? Would it be better for the show spin-off a character we don’t know much about (perhaps Toby who announced he was leaving? Or Ryan’s life in corporate headquarters?). The only character I really think the show shouldn’t spin-off is Dwight, who I think is too quirky of a character to carry his own show.
As a reminder, here are my rules for a spin-off.
- The character isn’t played out: There is still information we don’t know about the character --stories left to tell, a side of him/her we haven’t seen.
- The character isn’t one dimensional : The problem with Joey was that after ten years on Friends and our beloved character maturing, he was back to season one Joey once he got his own show.
- The show is completely different: Frasier was a success because the producers gave Frasier a brother who was more Frasier than Frasier. They also moved Frasier out of Boston and gave him a whole new setting, new workplace, and new family.
- We’re okay with the character leaving: Before leaving Sunnydale to join Angel, Cordelia made amends with Xander, came through for the gang on the day of the Ascension, and was so over her crush on Wesley. A little thing called closure can make a huge difference.
Which character of The Office do you think would work best in his or her own series? Talk about it below.
Where Have I Seen Them Before?
Clea DuVall was Jennifer, the woman married to a man with a brain tumor, on Grey’s Anatomy. She was FBI Agent Audrey Hanson on Heroes and Sofie on Carnival. Jason O’Mara was her husband. He’s Marin’s former fiancé Stuart on Men in Trees and was Stiles on The Agency.
Nestor Serrano was the lawyer arguing against Denny and Alan in front of the Supreme Court on Boston Legal. Serrano was Navi Araz on 24.
Cass recognized Christopher Wiehl was the missing coma patient on Without a Trace. Among his many roles, Wiehl was Roger Hammond on Jericho, Derek McConnell on Playmakers, Jake on Love Monkey, and there are those of us who will always remember him as Owen on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Missy Yager was his wife. She was Claire on Boston Public.
Michelle and David recognized Emily Rose, the woman thought to have committed suicide on Cold Case. She was Trish on Jericho, Lena on Brothers & Sisters, and Cass on John From Cincinnati.
Um, I’m going to need you to recognize Gary Cole was Dylan’s father and Katherine’s ex-husband on Desperate Housewives. We all probably have different reasons we remember Cole. He was Bill Lumbergh on Office Space, Mike Brady in the Brady Bunch movies, Lieutenant Conrad Rose on Wanted, and Lisa remembered him as Vice President Bob Russell on The West Wing.
Viola Davis was the mom of child with cancer who approached Nora on Brothers & Sisters. Davis was Agent Jan Marlow on Traveler, Molly in the Jesse Stone movies and you’ll see her soon in the upcoming miniseries The Andromeda Strain. Jen recognized Ken Howard was Boyd Taylor on Brothers & Sisters. Earlier this season, Howard was Joe on Cane. He was also Max Cavanaugh on Crossing Jordan and Ken Reeves on The White Shadow.
Keith recognized Barry Livingston as the father who punched Charlie on Two and a Half Men. We just saw him as the immigration lawyer on Eli Stone and, of course, he was Ernie on My Three Sons.
Sue recognized Leah Pipes as Kylie on Ghost Whisperer. She was Katie on Life is Wild and Jessie on Clubhouse. Sue also caught Jonathan Murphy as the ghost who was haunting her. Murphy is Ronnie on October Road.
Did you catch Jason Lewis, Smith on Sex and the City, Dex on Charmed and Chad on Brothers & Sisters, as the star of the soap opera House was watching on House? Lewis will return as House’s patient next week.
Tom Wilson was Chip Barnett, the manager at the tire recycling plant, on Bones. Wilson will always be Biff from the Back to the Future movies to me. But he’s had so many memorable TV roles including Coach Ben Fredricks on Freaks & Geeks, Sean Nowell on Ed, and Tim Flaherty on Ghost Whisperer.
Jess recognized Austin O'Brien as the former science teacher on Bones. He was Josh Green on Promised Land but Jess will always remember his as Logan Bruno in the Babysitter’s Club movie.
And it was a busy week for Becky Wahlstrom, who was Grace on Joan of Arcadia. She was the friend of the deceased mom on Bones and Sandy Foster on Women’s Murder Club.
That’s all for today. I’ll be back on Friday with quotes of the week and more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week or a topic for discussion? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com.
I wouldn't want to see a spin-off from The Office. It's too great an ensemble show for me. I try to picture each character with his or her own show, and I just don't buy it.
jessie | Apr 30, 2008 12:12:03 PM | #Agree that Dwight is probably the least spin-offable character after Michael, but wouldn't you love to see the crazy happenings at Shrute Farm's Beet Farm?!?!
tvgalwannabe | Apr 30, 2008 12:22:42 PM | #I was pretty excited for the Justin/Rebecca pairing *until* this happened. Now that Rebecca didn't tell Justin ther not related, it's just going to drag on and on. I hope I'll be able to like this part of the show again, but for now I'm kind of annoyed.
Jen | Apr 30, 2008 12:22:46 PM | #I just can't really picture anyone on The Office in their own show. It's an ensemble comedy, but there's 4 really strong characters (Michael, Dwight, Pam and Jim) and everyone else seems kind of ancillary. I mean, with the exception of the webisodes, they haven't really focused too much attention on anyone else, enough to warrant enough growth as a character to deserve their own spin-off...
Sean | Apr 30, 2008 12:42:13 PM | #De-Walker Rebecca was a cheap twist worthy of the worst daytime soap. It systematically invalidated a good chunk of Season 1. Now, most of the scenes relating to her introduction (and all the drama they caused among the Walker) will play like a bad joke.
But, you know, I *might* have been able to get through it if I felt they were doing this to explore the nature of family bonds -- will she still be accepted as family despite the DNA test?
But it's pretty clear the motivating factor was to pursue an icky quasi-incestuous romance with Justin, which is perhaps the worst reason possible. Life is more complicated than DNA. They believed themselves siblings for a year. IRL, who would EVER think of actually entering a sexual relationship with the other person?
I really hope the writers steer clear of this potential trainwreck, especially because I love the other plots right now (Kevin/Scotty, Sarah/Saul).
Scott | Apr 30, 2008 12:43:40 PM | #I remember Gary Cole from Midnight Caller.
William | Apr 30, 2008 12:47:20 PM | #I was going to say Midnight Caller, William!!! I loved that show, but it's been so long since it's been on, I don't remember why... :)
Tracee | Apr 30, 2008 12:54:21 PM | #I agree completly that there is much dramatic fodder surronding Rebecca's DNA results, but I, too, fear this was only for a romantic setup that is just down right creepy. I don't care if they are not really related, he thinks they are and therefore would be a creep if he had feelings for her!! I am just going to have to let this go and hope for the best...
Once I saw Jason Lewis appear on House's soap, I knew there had to be something to it. Next week looks interesting!
I agree that a Pam/Jim spinoff wouldn't be the best. I am not sure which of these characters could hold their own show. I love them all, but they are all quite quirky characters and I feel like we could run into too much of a good thing syndrome... I think a Toby spinoff could be interesting and wouldn't be overdone as long as their were some interesting other characters...
Scott, you said it all! So, ditto.
Mandy | Apr 30, 2008 1:00:51 PM | #Does anyone else think The Office spin off will be a very minor character or someone that hasn't been featured that often recently.
Mose @ the beet farm? Roy? The guys in the warehouse? Karen? Bob Vance from Vance Refridgeration? A Lost-ish flashback only series dedicated to the life of the chair model?
PS - To me, Gary Cole will always be looking for someone at the door.
Jehu23 | Apr 30, 2008 1:12:23 PM | #Zap2it really needs to get a TVGuy so that the males that frequent this website can talk about shows they watch. I have no interest in Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy or Brothers and Sisters.
You need to mix it up alittle.
I'd watch an office spinoff with Kelly.
Joe | Apr 30, 2008 1:30:56 PM | #Maybe the Spin-off will be Cousin Mose trying to follow in his cousin's footsteps, leaving the beet farm to work inn an office.
Denise | Apr 30, 2008 1:46:42 PM | #I heard a rumor - no idea if there's any truth to it - that the spin-off will be centered around Ryan and the staff at corporate. I also heard that Amanda Peet may be a cast member, which would be as fantastic as she is.
MK | Apr 30, 2008 1:47:24 PM | #Oh, I would enjoy a Darrel spin-off for The Office. Maybe he leaves the warehouse and takes an office job in a different branch.
Denise | Apr 30, 2008 1:47:50 PM | #I loved Rebecca as a Walker. The romantic potential does not equate with the sibling love. I'm sorry it just doesn't. there is something so inherently wonderful about the family aspect that romance can't touch. It is what made the story great. Blech Blech Blech. NOT HAPPY!!!!!
Also--Jim and Pam couldn't carry a series. They're great as part of a group. They're strength comes from playing off the other Office characters (Andy-Who thinks we're a better couple? Pam-Phyllis (sigh)!) I'm kind of over the PB&J thing too. I liked Pam last year when she was finding herself--now she's lost in Jim again.
Terri | Apr 30, 2008 2:07:42 PM | #ETA--their not they're, I know, I know
Terri | Apr 30, 2008 2:08:36 PM | #I'm struggling to think of who could be spun off from the current Office cast successfully. Spinning off Pam and Jim would gut half of what goes into a typical Office episode, leaving the original series reeling. You can't take Michael or Dwight since they are key to the original. The rest of the regulars don't seem fleshed out enough to be the basis for a new show. If What's-Her-Name who played Karen is available again, I could see a Utica branch spin-off, but it would be tough to make the new show significantly different from the original. Whatever the producers do, the new show has to bring something new to the table.
Derek | Apr 30, 2008 2:13:55 PM | #I'm disappointed too that it turned Rebecca was not a Walker, especially since they did it in favor of a Justin/Rebecca romance.
I don't know about any of "The Office" characters getting a spin off. It's such a great ensemble show.
And as for Gary Cole, I was so excited to hear he'd be Katherine's ex because he was wickedly fabulous on "American Gothic".
Michelle | Apr 30, 2008 2:27:16 PM | #The publicity so far about the Office spinoff has indicated it won't spin off one of the existing characters. It's supposed to be more of a "back door pilot" in which an episode of the original show introduces a completely separate setting--in this case, a similar branch office which has its own set of oddball characters.
Tego Livi | Apr 30, 2008 2:53:44 PM | #I would love to see Ryan as the spin-off character. I always believed he should have more camera time than he did. However, now that I think about it, I was crazier over the old Ryan: the bored, exasperated out of his mind with Kelly but still continues to date her, and sarcastic Ryan. The new Ryan, not as much. I still don't understand where the whole change came from--it was like he made a 180 degree turn between seasons 3 and 4. (Or at least it was a 90 degree turn)
I also like the idea of Toby, because I've always liked him too, but I don't know how well that would succeed...he doesn't seem to be that liked by a lot of people.
Lauren B | Apr 30, 2008 4:19:14 PM | #Ryan's change happened when moved to headquarters, and became the boss of the Scranton branch. A little full of himself, no? I liked this direction, until last week with the hint of a drug problem.
LE | Apr 30, 2008 4:40:13 PM | #A spin-off of The Office doesn't necessarily mean that any of the characters we think of as "regulars" will be the focus.
Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy were both spin-offs of Happy Days, even though those characters only appeared as guest roles in a couple of episodes.
I just wanted to mention that Clea DuVall was also on Buffy as Marcie Ross aka invisible girl aka the girl who disappeared b/c she was ignored by everyone in a S1 ep.
Rishi | Apr 30, 2008 5:15:36 PM | #Gary Cole: and very importantly Captain Gideon in the B5 spin off Crusade!!! And Sheriff Buck in American Gothic!!
2paw | Apr 30, 2008 6:07:04 PM | #was the guy from bones(science teacher man)the same kid from my girl 2? it just doesn't seem that long ago to me.
i don't think they can take pam and jim from the office. they're the ones we can actually relate to. the sane ones. i hope the rumor above is true. amanda peet is great as long as she's not a love interest for ryan cause i can't picture them together.
carrie | Apr 30, 2008 9:36:32 PM | #Removing Jim and Pam from 'the office' would be ridiculous and make no sense.
If they spin off, Ryan is logical.
Jan would work (though OMG insane).
Toby eh.
Andy would also work.
Though I just think its a mistake to break up this group. It just seems like a HUGE MISTAKE. HUGE.
Francesca | May 1, 2008 12:03:52 AM | #As a Buffy fanatic, I have to add to Rishi's comment on Clea DuVall. How could you forget her in that? But I was happy with the Carnivale plug. Never got enough attention.
And Gary Cole was also terrific in Brimstone, which can't get to DVD soon enough for me.
Mandy | May 1, 2008 12:08:03 AM | #Oops, or maybe it wasn't Gary Cole in Brimstone. Was great in American Gothic, though.
Mandy | May 1, 2008 12:11:44 AM | #Does anyone else think that Rebecca's story strongly resembles Liv Tyler's? Didn't Liv's mother, Bebe Bluell, neglect to tell Liv that her father was Steve Tyler because of his drug habit? David used that excuse to Becca about why she wasn't told - culled from the headlines just like L&O!!
But actually, I'm more stunned that loose lips Justin has actually managed to keep a secret from the rest of the Walkers!
Does anybody actually *know* if Gary Cole is Katherine's ex? I thought she killed her ex. I'm thinking he's someone else with an obvious ulterior motive, perhaps no relation at all.
Lisa | May 1, 2008 5:06:22 AM | #Does anybody actually *know* if Gary Cole is Katherine's ex? I thought she killed her ex. I'm thinking he's someone else with an obvious ulterior motive, perhaps no relation at all.
Lisa | May 1, 2008 5:06:36 AM | #"And even though we now know Rebecca isn’t Justin’s brother, the whole thing is still, to put it technically, kind of icky."
Well now, Amy, if Rebecca was Justin's BROTHER, that would just be weird. :)
ferretrick | May 1, 2008 5:22:38 AM | #Yes, the Rebecca/Justin thing would be too icky for me, b/c they would completely have to address whether they felt anything romantic prior to knowing they were NOT siblings, and I really don't want to have to hear that conversation!
And I know it was a small part of your post, Amy, but I have completely missed the bandwagon on Greek, and only b/c I really can't watch EVERYTHING (it definitely looks like something I'd like), but if you hear of Ryan Sypek from Wildfire showing up anywhere else, definitely let us know! I like him a lot on Wildfire and would like to see what kind of range he has as an actor! Thanks!
AndreaC | May 1, 2008 5:29:26 AM | #Pfft, Gary Cole will ALWAYS be the devil from American Gothic. He played that one to a T.
PoG | May 1, 2008 5:40:29 AM | #Midnight Caller was a great show well for the first two years anyway.
Karen has her own branch of Dunder mifflin so maybe? Where is Jan going to be working now? What about Mike's old pal the practical joker I forget the characters name.
Or Maybe it will not use any existing characters but instead someone introduced in the superbowl show.
Kevin | May 1, 2008 6:55:28 AM | #I heard that Dave Annable (Justin) and Emily VanCamp (Rebecca) were dating in real life, so maybe the writers were actually worried that real life would impact the way viewers perceived their relationship on screen and actually de-walkered Rebecca to avoid incestuous undertones that they couldn't prevent? Just a guess - like they're trying to actually head "icky" off at the pass and it wasn't so they could actually put them in a romantic relationship? I like the above poster's idea of exploring whether the family, especially Nora, will still accept her if she's not really a Walker. That said, even long before they even hinted at the possibility that Rebecca wasn't a walker, I was always slightly uncomfortable with the romantic tension vibe I got from their relationship. So, again, maybe they just couldn't keep the real-life personal stuff from showing up on-screen and the writers decided to kill it?
Michelle | May 1, 2008 7:53:54 AM | #Gary Cole equals Captain Jeffrey MacDonald and Fatal Vision
And yeah, pretty sure I just dated myself.
smiling | May 1, 2008 8:19:02 AM | #For me, I always will remember Nestor Serrano as Rafael Martinez in the early 90s tv show The Hat Squad. I fell in love with him in that show. I wish he'd get to play the good guy more often.
Lynn | May 1, 2008 9:45:00 AM | #I also agree with Scott about "Brothers & Sisters". But, Rebecca has shown herself to be a manipulative liar multiple times but somehow we are supposed to like her? I think many viewers are transfering their feelings for her Everwood character onto Rebecca because I don't see her in any positive light. She even got David to go away so she could continue the charade. Thankfully, the Kevin/Scotty storyline is terrific and maybe they'll figure out what to do with Sarah.
Lorraine | May 1, 2008 9:45:31 AM | #I'm afraid Brothers & Sisters has me hooked and I'm just going to complain, but nonetheless, still watch the show. That being said, dating in real life or not, I HATE this Rebecca storyline. Her removal as a Walker and the likely Justin/Rebecca hook-up feels like a betrayal of all the time we spent watching her become part of the Walker clan. This coupling is going to make me really uncomfortable and they could have toned down the sexual-tension vibe between those characters in the first place by not always having them separate from everyone else, mostly in quiet conversation - usually at night. Gee, looking back, it seems they were setting this up all along...
I think that Emily VanCamp is a really good actress and Rebecca is now a multi-layered character (as was Amy Abbott from Everwood) who also has flaws. I understand the lie - but I don't like it. Who would want to give up all that they've never had? As she told David, this was the first time she was happy...
I do hope that the writers have her come clean in an episode or two though (I see a really good emotional revelation to Justin upon the culmination of which, they'll kiss...).
I also really wish they'd find something useful for all the actors to do or find a way to shrink the cast - Saul and Tommy are thoroughly wasted; not to mention Tommy's wife (what's her name anyway?).
i remember Gary Cole from The Bronx Zoo.
coco | May 1, 2008 11:15:44 AM | #I think Rebecca should be an Honarary Walker. I like her as their sister. But hasn't there been tension between her and Justin since the beginning? And I like that fact that Nora's husband really isn't her father.
Also, re Jason O'Mara - I don't think Stuart was ever Marin's fiancee, was he? Just her editor or publisher or something.
Clare | May 1, 2008 3:58:14 PM | #huh.. fourth paragraph:
I don,t think that Rebecca could ever be Justin's BROTHER :p
I would love to see more of Kelly's character. In fact, she is not shown nearly enough on the Office.
Monica | May 1, 2008 7:47:30 PM | #Please don't spin off The Office. *Sigh*, Carnivale and American Gothic. Two great shows that never got enough attention. Miss them! Thank God for Netflix!
serene | May 1, 2008 8:27:58 PM | #Just food for thought: We didn't actually hear what the doctor said to Rebecca....She has proven to be a liar, so who knows when she was lying???
Also, as I've pointed out before about spinoffs, two shows did spin from Happy Days which was a spinoff itself: an episode from Love American Style. Talk about dating oneself (I still remember a drunk Richie saying "H-E-dble hockey sticks".
Office spinoff = BAD IDEA!
Nate | May 2, 2008 9:07:37 AM | #one for the exchange of the week
On CSI-Vegas
Hodges to Wendy(After being corrected about his statements about Mr. Spock),
"Your like a geeky, nerdy guy trapped in a woman's body."
Wendy to Hodges (With a smirk on her face), "So are you."
tojoson | May 2, 2008 9:15:25 AM | #i hate those guys on csi. (referring to the quote above.)
Re: The Office proposed spinoff - I think Creed would be an interesting character on his own. He's clearly insane.
Julie | May 2, 2008 12:54:13 PM | #Dear God, PLEASE let Creed have his own show!
Erin | May 2, 2008 1:57:32 PM | #What's with TV Gal being so homophobic and judgmental? She appears to support all the gay relationships on B&S, but calls an incestuous one "icky." How homophobic. There is no difference between a homosexual relationship and an incestuous one, other than the parts involved. Both are taboo in society and neither is good for reproduction. Big deal. Why the double standard? Maybe TV Gal needs some sensitivity training.
Alexis | May 2, 2008 2:41:44 PM | #I'm disappointed ABC Family is canceling Wildfire. I feel it's a better show than Kyle XY.
Judy | May 2, 2008 9:33:39 PM | #What's really annoying about the Rebecca thing is that there wasn't really a good reason to believe that she was a Walker in the first place; it was basically a suspension of disbelief thing to accept that she was. Then they go back on that. Dirty pool.
"I have no interest in Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy or Brothers and Sisters."
Yeah, reruns of Dexter are going up against B&S, and it's not much of a contest for me. And GA makes we want to retch. But if you haven't given DH a shot, you should give it a chance. It's definitely a cut above B&S and GA.
"She appears to support all the gay relationships on B&S, but calls an incestuous one "icky." How homophobic."
So because she prefers homosexuality to incest, she's homophobic? I'm not following your logic.
"There is no difference between a homosexual relationship and an incestuous one, other than the parts involved."
And the fact that incest is icky. Look, if it weren't for the fact that people think that incest is icky, R&J would never have been able to have their relationship in the first place. Our society has constructed a special relationship called "siblings" which is a haven from sexual tension. Once R&J have accepted that relationship for each other, it would icky for them to renounce that decision.
anonymous | May 2, 2008 10:00:23 PM | #Alexis, do you know what incestuous actually means? It means a sexual relationship between members of your immediate family, ie brothers and sisters, or mothers and sons and or fathers and daughters - incest has absolutely nothing to do with homosexuality!! Try looking in a dictionary before you insult gay people who are maligned enough with idiotic misunderstandings without you sticking an "icky" illegal relationship with - pardon the pun - a straight one! And I know that some people think that homosexuality should be or is illegal in some places but it's not even close to incest!! I'm not gay and I'm insulted and frankly embarrassed for you for such ignorance. Honestly.
Sirius | May 3, 2008 4:44:59 AM | #There is no moral or psychological distinction to be made between homosexuality and incest. Neither one hurts anyone. Each is taboo in society. Homophobic is an umbrella phrase, you should know that by now. If two people are consenting adults, you are bigoted to call their relationship "icky." You are a prejudiced bigot, just like the whites in the south and the gay haters everywhere, if you call incest between two adult siblings icky. You don't have the right to judge them. That is why TV Gal needs sensitivity training. Love is love, right?
Alexis | May 3, 2008 11:53:16 AM | #Guess I'm in the minority about Brothers & Sisters here. But I also see it a bit different. While watching the story develop I remember watching the connection/chemistry that existed between Justin and Sarah and at one point even thought that they miscast her. That she should have been brought in as his love interest. It's that type of chemistry that lights up a screen and is there or isn't---acting can help but it just can't be faked.
So I'm assuming TPTB at Bros and Sis saw this, decided to explore all the unknown sister, how do we deal with her storylines. They did a great job of that last year, but now what would they do with Sarah, other than have her be just another Walker?
Now they have a very complicated situation to delve into. Not only the obvious couple one, but the impact on on the rest of the family on a slew of levels, the impact of the initial lie with Sarah and her Mom, the impact of finding out someone you came to love isn't why you came to love them etc.
So as long as they explore ALL of these things, I'm all for it. Just hope they don't focus too long on what they showed in the promo--Justin's attraction to her while she is believed to be his sis. But that too is actually a bit interesting if written well. After all they weren't raised as family. As long as this is tastefully done, and goes well past romance, then I think it's the most interesting direction they could have gone with it!
Ellen | May 3, 2008 5:39:43 PM | #OMG...as the page was loading I saw my post and screamed NOOOOOO REBECCA not Sarah. LOL. Boy talk about invalidating a point w/stupidity. Sorry bout that and clearly I am talking about REBECCA and Justin!
My brain just needed that other cup of coffee I didn't have today lolol. In reading other posts I saw Sarah and not sure why that moved into my mushy head lolol.
Ellen | May 3, 2008 5:42:29 PM | #Emily Vancamp did an amazing job last Sunday. To me Rebecca and Justin always played as best friends with an attraction not siblings and the rest of the Walkers, well she played more like an in law then a full fledge walker. She was more apart of the family then Julia but still an outsider. I'm ok with her being de-walkered as long as she doesn't lose the walker friendships she has. I love the J&R chemistry but they need to do that slowly. To me that storyline has potential. It's not jumping the shark to me. Jumping the shark would be: another William Walker affair&child, Tommy/Holly, or finding out whether Kevin or Justin is Elizabeth's bio dad and them fighting Tommy for custody.
Patti | May 4, 2008 8:02:02 AM | #I agree that the whole Rebecca/Justin thing is icky...but I've found it to be a bit icky from day one. There's always been more there, under the surface. I found the chemistry between them to be a bit overwhelming right from the get-go. Seeing them act on their feelings will probably be a little less unsettling than watching them pretend like they didn't have those feelings to begin with.
Michael | May 4, 2008 8:19:37 AM | #It's worth noting that the original creator/writer of Brothers and Sisters was let go or fired... I think it was during or after the writers' strike.
I seriously doubt that Baitz would have taken the same DNA direction with the show.
Who knows who's in charge now, but it rarely bodes well for a show when the creative force is ousted. (Think Gilmore Girls.)
Once that happens, the end is oftentimes inevitable.
Karen M | May 4, 2008 9:39:14 AM | #Didn't Holly receive quite a large sum of money from the Walkers in William's will because of Rebecca? Maybe this de-Walkering of Rebecca is so the Walkers can get the money back to save their company.

DL | May 4, 2008 10:19:51 AM | #William left the money to Holly. He never left it to Rebecca and we don't know if he intended the money for Rebecca or just Holly.
Kelly | May 4, 2008 11:17:06 AM | #The company owes 20 million and I'm not sure how much William left Holly but Holly gave 2million of that money to Rebecca in a trust fund.
| May 4, 2008 11:18:01 AM | #I can't stand Holly. Poor Rebecca and The Walkers.
| May 4, 2008 3:30:26 PM | #I hope Nora,Sara and Rebecca give Holly a smackdown.
| May 4, 2008 3:44:33 PM | #I know it only lasted 13 episodes, but I'm surprised there's been no mention of Jason O'Mara having been the star of the quite good midseason '06 series "In Justice."
But I'm truly amazed at all the disappointment being expressed about the Rebecca storyline. Doesn't anybody read Entertainment Weekly? In their big post-strike Spring TV Preview, they quoted exec producer Monica Owusu-Breen as saying, "[Rebecca's paternity] gets resolved, but then it brings up something that no one will see coming....When Greg [Berlanti] pitched it, we were dumbfounded for 10 minutes. It's just that amazing." So unless she was completely over-selling it, people had better find some good recipes for all the words they'll be eating 2 weeks from now!
Jonathan | May 4, 2008 5:02:46 PM | #I like Rebecca as not a walker and the justin/rebecca relationship. I hope they explore it.
It's the possiblity of another walker son as the big finale twist that jumps the shark for me.
| May 4, 2008 6:07:49 PM | #I'm probably dating myself here big time but I remember Gary Cole from V.
Tracey | May 5, 2008 7:24:51 AM | #I think its down right discusting to have Rebecca and Justin involved in a romatic relationship. They were related for a year and now you want them to jump in bed together? Thats crazy.
