If loving a bad boy is wrong, I don't want to be right
Tim Riggins. Sawyer. Logan Echolls. Dylan McKay.
Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?
The bad boy has become a nearly iconic figure on the TV landscape. In real life, it might not be a good idea to date a bad boy. But on TV, we just can't seem to get enough of them. They are often an important part of a love triangle. Underneath the rough exterior and sexy hair style, they are good guys (kind of) who want to do the right thing (most of the time). They give the viewer someone to root for (Kate should be with Sawyer) or against (Kate should definitely be with Jack).
But a good bad boy is hard to find. The actor has to be able to convey a believable vulnerability. And the writing has to take a bad boy to dark places without ever taking him past the point of redemption.
Andrew McCarthy never quite came together as Joe Bennett on Lipstick Jungle. As many of you have pointed out, he was no Mr. Big (a bad boy if there ever was one).
They might have very well made Chuck irredeemable on Gossip Girl. And Grey’s Anatomy really hasn’t given McSteamy a story line he can get behind.
Who are some of your favorite TV bad boys? Or do you have a favorite bad girl? Talk about it below.
Oceanic Six
Thanks to the promos now we know the Oceanic Six – Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Sun and, drum roll please, Aaron. So how do we feel about that? Do we think that’s fair (if fair is even the right word) since Aaron was born on the island?

Quotes of the Week
"She's 516. She might dress like she's 718 and act like she's 212, but trust me, she's 516. And her husband, letting her out alone on St. Patty's Day, if that dude's not 973, I'm 307. Wyoming." Barney breaking down the area codes for Ted on How I Met Your Mother. Thanks to Janin for getting the whole hilarious quote.
"How could she not notice this? It’s like the last 20 minutes of ‘Titanic’ in here." Robin to Marshall about his crooked apartment on How I Met Your Mother. The show is back so it deserves two quotes this week.
"This garage is a monument of my half-assedness." Christine on The New Adventures of Old Christine. Thanks to Michelle for the quote.
"I’m here to die." Michael explaining why he’s on the boat on Lost.
"We got married without you but we still want your fancy gifts party." Jerome about Sam and Jane’s wedding party on Men in Trees.
Exchange of the Week
"I don’t want my clothes to say ‘come hither.’" Alan to Charlie on Two and a Half Men.
"As always they say, ‘your regular teacher is sick.’" Charlie’s response.
That’s all for today. I’ll be back on Monday to discuss the return of Greek (Am I too old to date a Kappa Tau?), the season finale of Jericho, Britney on How I Met Your Mother (oh my God, y’all), the season finale of The Celebrity Apprentice, the return of CSI: Miami (get out your sunglasses) and much much more. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week or a topic for discussion? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Have a wonderful weekend and, for those who celebrate, a very Happy Easter. Talk to you on Monday.

Sawyer on "Lost" is most definately my favorite bad boy! I can't help but smile everytime he comes on screen. :) He's delicious. I also like Dr. Christian Troy on "Nip/Tuck" and Linc on "Prison Break". (I know Linc's not bad bad, but he was in prison after all) I'm sure there are many more, but those are my top three that I can think of right now. :)
Michelle | Mar 21, 2008 10:28:45 AM | #Ack -- how could I forget Dr. Doug Ross from ER?
Michelle | Mar 21, 2008 10:32:23 AM | #Favorite bad boys ever: Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars, Angelus on Buffy/Angel, Sark on Alias, Cole on Charmed, and Alec on Dark Angel. (Although, I'll admit that Sark and Cole may be past redemption and, unfortunately, they never explored a Sydney/Sark pairing).
Favorite bad girls: Valerie AND Gina on 90210
AndreaC | Mar 21, 2008 10:39:02 AM | #Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights! How could you forget him?
kirrrra | Mar 21, 2008 11:10:29 AM | #I have loved many a-bad boy in my many, many days of watching television but there is absolutely NO ONE who has thoroughly captured my heart like Logan Echolls. No one.
Kirrrra~
Ahem, Riggins was the first name on the list...
| Mar 21, 2008 11:17:02 AM | #Hello?? Alex Karev, anyone ?
Sammy | Mar 21, 2008 11:25:24 AM | ##1 bad boy of all time is definitely Logan Echolls. But since Veronica Mars is no more, Tim Riggins - please NBC/give us an "official" announcement regarding FNL.
vb | Mar 21, 2008 11:40:44 AM | ##1 bad boy of all time is definitely Logan Echolls. But since Veronica Mars is no more, Tim Riggins - please NBC/give us an "official" announcement regarding FNL.
vb | Mar 21, 2008 11:41:23 AM | #While I agree that Riggins has a total hotty factor that makes my toes curl, I have to say there is no one like Logan. He could be such a bad boy, but he would always come through when he was needed.
Hettie | Mar 21, 2008 11:42:38 AM | #Suprised you didn't mention Spike from Buffy. A world classic bad-boy. Another of my favs would be Jane from Firefly/Casey from Chuck, essentially the same character being played by Adam Baldwin.
My favorite bad girl is probably Joy from My Name is Earl.
sac | Mar 21, 2008 12:40:51 PM | #i too have to vote for dohring as logan echolls. moonlight is barely entertaining but i keep watching just for him. it breaks my heart to see his talent wasted on so few scenes.
also have to vote for james marsters as spike and luke perry as dylan. and even though he wasn't exactly "bad" - josh jackson as pacey was so much more entertaining than van der beek's "good" dawson.
Jordan Catalano will always be my #1 bad boy.
Melissa | Mar 21, 2008 1:30:11 PM | #How could it take 12 posts and almost 4 hours before someone mentioned Jordan Catalano?!?! Just melt your heart beautiful, soulful, and you just knew he was going to stomp on Angela's heart in the end. God I miss that show.
Marissa | Mar 21, 2008 1:46:14 PM | #I'm most definitely a Sawyer/Kate person (a Skater, I think is the preferred term). In the same way, Sawyer might be my most favorite bad boy of all time. Well...unless Jack Bauer counts. Jack Bauer (not Shepherd) will always have my heart.
Lauren B | Mar 21, 2008 2:17:57 PM | #Regarding Arron, the promo writers are not Lost writers. Until Cuse and Lindelof say Aaron is one of the Oceanic Six, I won't believe it.
lostinthought | Mar 21, 2008 3:03:14 PM | #I'm seriously in love with Tim Riggins. He has a Jordan Catalano thing going on for him. Yes, he's a bad boy, but as my mom pointed out, he's always trying to save people or watch over them. I miss FNL!
Cat | Mar 21, 2008 3:14:17 PM | #So glad that someone else put Jordan Catalano & Tim Riggins in the same post. Sometimes I find it distracting that Taylor Kitsch, who plays Riggins, looks a little too much like Jared Leto, who played Catalano. It's as if Jordan Catalano was held back in high school for ten years. I can't quite shake the resemblance.
Elizabeth | Mar 21, 2008 3:56:37 PM | #I agree with the person above: Alex Karev. Best bad boy I've seen in a while.
Kim | Mar 21, 2008 4:53:32 PM | #It's pretty funny--I think every single viewer of Friday Night Lights must post in here. Looking over these lists, I realize I haven't even heard of some of these "bad boy" characters, and the ones I've heard of, I don't like. It leads me to an obvious conclusion: I don't like "bad boys." I like the tough, misunderstood "good guy" MUCH more. My favorite character in prime time right now is Danny on CSI:NY. They have set us up several times to *think* he's a "bad boy," only to have it turn out he's actually a terrific person with a rough exterior and a fantastic accent. All of which is much more to my taste than all of these sullen, negative jerks (heart of gold or no).
Tego Livi | Mar 21, 2008 4:55:32 PM | #Does Dean from Supernatural count as a bad boy? Because if he does, then he gets my vote for favorite bad boy AND favorite TV Character of all time.
Otherwise, my vote goes to Alec from Dark Angel (ironically played by the same actor) and Logan Echolls.
Chelsey | Mar 21, 2008 6:07:41 PM | #i would say... Dean Winchester from Supernatural
jess/ or blackcamero | Mar 21, 2008 6:10:37 PM | #One word... Krycek.
That is all.
Leydianna | Mar 21, 2008 6:26:03 PM | #I have to go w/Dean Winchester from Supernatural. My fav bad boy w/a heart. He's always going to be first place to me. But I'll second what someone else said, Alec from Season 2 of Dark Angel would be my #2 pick.
Amy | Mar 21, 2008 6:43:19 PM | #My vote goes to Dean Winchester from Supernatural.
