A Royal Treat . . . A Review of 'The Tudors'
Are there stories happening today that people will be writing about 500 years from now?
The Tudors returns to Showtime for a second season Sunday at 9 p.m. Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as the dastardly King Henry VIII. The second season follows the King as he forms to the Church of England, divorces Queen Katherine of Aragon (Maria Doyle Kennedy) and marries Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer).
The show is a great fusion of history and modern story telling. There's sex, political intrigue, deceit, romance, heartbreak and death. Meyers is a petulant, violent and charming King. Dormer is simultaneously conniving and vulnerable. Their chemistry is palpable. It's a huge challenge to tell a story that most people who paid attention in 8th grade history class know the ending to. The Tudors pulls it off. I know things don't go so well for Anne but two episodes in to the second season, I'm still anxious to see happens next. Four stars.
The story of King Henry VIII and his many wives has lived on. Partly because the decisions he made had a long lasting impact on our society. And probably because the story has all the necessary ingredients for a juicy tale. Are there stories unfolding today that you think will be told five hundred years from now? What do you think of The Tudors? Talk about it below.

The long wait is almost over. The Office returns on April 10 with a bang (that's what she said, sorry I couldn't resist). Check out this clip to hold you over in the meantime.
Quotes of the Week
"I've been to one party in the past year. St. Paddy's Day. It was awful. I left early." Stella to Ted on How I Met Your Mother. Just in case you somehow missed this quote.
"I just want my marriage back." Nico to Kirby in the season finale on Lipstick Jungle.
"Talking to the Backstreet Boys is time out of my life that I'll never get back." Trace Adkins on The Celebrity Apprentice.
"Somebody asked me if he'd stab you in the back. I said, 'He'd stab you in the forehead, you'll see him coming." Adkins about Piers Morgan on The Celebrity Apprentice. I'm so sad the country star didn't win I decided to give him two quotes of the week.
"Am I being Punk'd? Is that cute Ashton Kutcher going to jump out? I hear he appreciates the mature women." Patti to Eli on Eli Stone.
Exchange of the Week
"No, no, you are on a time-out." Lily to Barney after he does a fire magic trick at the table on How I Met Your Mother.
"But." Barney's reply
"Go!" interrupted by Lily. Thanks to Ritchie for the exchange
That's all for today. I'll be back on Monday with a look at the return of My Name is Earl, CSI, and Without a Trace-- that's right our shows are coming back, baby. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week or a topic for discussion? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Have a great weekend. Talk to you on Monday.

I'm first!!!!!!
Thanks for the review, Amy. I still haven't watched the first season of The Tudors, but fully intend to as I love the story of King Henry VIII's wives. Your review also makes me happy b/c recently I read a bad review of the return of season 2.
As far as whether there is anything going on today that people will write about 500 years from now, I wish there were, but I can't think of any off the top of my head - I certainly wouldn't think (or hope) Paris Hilton's or Britney Spears' lives would stand the test of time and I won't comment on George W. as I don't want to get into a political debate on this site.
I'm second!!!!!!
Sorry, 3rd!!!!!!
Loved the Patti quote (even though she annoys me a bit...the writers need to tone her done a bit), but I think she said "Am I being PUNKED (not punished)?" hence the Ashton Kutcher reference.

My 10-year-old walks around with his hand to his ear chirping "Eli Stone! Eli Stone's office!" like Patti with her bluetooth on. He could not believe that was her real voice.
Amy, have you heard if Aliens in America is coming back? We love that house in my house. I'd hate to see it go.
