Will 'House' be Super?
I might as well confess that I'm not a huge football fan. Yeah I didn't think you'd be that shocked by that one. Although I did win the knock-out pool I was in, proving that the less you know about something, the better you'll do.
There seems to be a very distinct limit on how much football I can watch on TV (as in not much). But I never miss a Super Bowl, primarily because I want to watch the TV show that airs immediately after the game ends (and, of course, the commercials and the half-time show). We all first fell in love with The Wonder Years, when it debuted after the Super Bowl in 1988 and Homicide when it premiered in 1993.
Back in 1996, I infamously left a Super Bowl party early so I could watch the Friends episode. I knew that there would not be the silence I required at the party. I was declared to be lame (in fact, I think the term "lamey" was used), but I didn't care.
The 2003 Alias Super Bowl episode is one of my favorite episodes of all time and featured one of my all-time favorite quotes ("What was wrong with the black one?"). I'm not sure the episode brought new fans to the series, but loyal fans were left satisfied and shocked.
I'm sure many of you remember how displeased I was with the two-part Grey's Anatomy that kicked off after the Super Bowl in 2006. I think that was the first time I officially used the phrase "I'm not picking up what they're putting down" in regards to a TV show.
So I'm kind of bummed for House, which will air after the Super Bowl next Sunday, February 3. Executive producers were planning on a big two-part episode but were not able to do that because of the writer's strike. The Super Bowl episode will feature Mira Sorvino as a psychiatrist trapped at the South Pole. House and his team must help her long distance. It was to be a regular episode but quickly was reschedule to be the post-Super Bowl episode. Since I've fallen in love with House all over again this season, I have confidence that the episode will be good but I'm still disappointed we won't get to see what they were planning.
Beginning next Tuesday January 29, we will see the final three remaining episodes of House -- one on January 29, one after the Super Bowl and the finale episode on Tuesday, February 5.

Where Have I Seen Them Before?
Well we were all thrilled to see Francis Capra, Weevil on Veronica Mars, as Santiago's friend Gavin on Friday Night Lights. Capra was also on episodes of The Closer and Criminal Minds last year.
Suzanne recognize Rich Sommer, who played Will the man plotting to blow up the ROTC building on Without a Trace, is Harry Crane on Mad Men. Diane recognized John Jackson as the missing girl's father. He was Admiral Chegwidden on JAG and FBI Deputy Director Sam Cullen on Bones.
Familiar faces abounded over on Ugly Betty. Barry Bostwick, the Mayor on Spin City, was the lawyer representing Claire Meade. Paul McCrane, the not so dear, but very departed Dr. Romano on ER, was the prosecuting attorney. He was Graem Bauer last season on 24 and I can't mention McCrane without reminding you that he was Montgomery in the movie Fame. We saw Caroline Aaron, who played the suffer no fools Judge Biotch, earlier this season as the patient who was losing her voice on Grey's Anatomy. She also played a matchmaker last season on Brothers & Sisters.
Robin recognized Deborah Raffin was the real estate agent showing Greg an apartment on ER. She was Julie Camden Hastings on 7th Heaven.
Shaun and Kathie were the first ones to catch Grant Shaud, Miles on Murphy Brown, as the husband who filed for divorce after seeing an advertisement, on Boston Legal. Alas,we were all disappointed that he didn't have any scenes with Candice Bergen. Why does TV toy with our emotions like that?
And it's a good thing I didn't stop watching October Road. Because I would have missed Amy Acker, Fred on Angel and Kelly on Alias, as Owen's potential new love interest. Armand Assante was Aubrey's neer-do-well father. We've mostly seen him in the movies but Assante played Richard, the patient Sam took care of on ER (and if I recall correctly that story line was summarily dropped sans any real explanation) and La Grenouille on NCIS.
That's all for today. I'll be back on Friday with quotes of the week and answers to your questions. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week? Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. Talk to you on Friday.

I thought that was Amy Acker at the end! I don't think I'm going to like her, though, since she was such a baddie on Alias.
Although this is a sad day (Heath Ledger) I am surprised at the lack of comments here today.
I wasnt aware that House was going to be the big Super Bowl show. It sounds to me like the episode will seem rushed or squished because of the writers strike. (to which I am rapidly losing sympathy)
I dont usually watch the super bowl I just tune in now and again to see who is winning and when it will be over.
And Amy you are not Lame for leaving the party it was the party that was lame.
P.S. I was thrilled to see Amy Acker on OR I had missed the credits and was so surprised that I had to call a friend to make sure I really did see her. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her on this show.
Well since it is a TV column I will mention Heath Ledger was in a too short series called Roar. I liked it so of course it was pulled quickly.
Kevin,
I'm the second person who watched Roar. It was a great Celtic Fantasy series and yep, they pulled it.
I saw him in several movies, 10 Things I Hate About You, Four Feathers, Patriot, Casanova, and liked his work.
Very sad news.
I'm surprised Francis Capra got a shot out on FNL, but Matt Czuchry (Logan from "Gilmore Girls" who also had a one-time guest spot on "Veronica Mars") didn't get mentioned. We had "Veronica Mars" and "Gilmore Girls" exiles in the same episode...
Actually, it was a double-Veronica Mars sighting on FNL because Matt Czuchry played on Veronica Mars as well. He was the reporter who pretended to be Logan's brother.
Well, this was not an "after Super Bowl" episode but rather a halftime alternative episode... Back in the 80s before Fox hosted the big event they "took it on" by airing a live (I think) "In Living Color" during halftime. One of the funniest "Menz on Film" I have ever seen with a reference to blue balls!
OOps, ok it was in 1992.
