Gone but forgotten - a look at some cast departures
You know what's really strange?
I don't miss Dr. Burke on Grey's Anatomy. At all.
And I kind of thought I would. I liked his character and , most of the time, I really liked him and Cristina together. I couldn't always understand why they were together, but I liked them. And now I don't even really notice he's gone.
When you do what I do, you have to separate what you see on TV from what goes on behind the scenes. It's a weird thing. I've actually sat on Ted's couch on How I Met Your Mother but I can still watch the show and totally be in their world and not think "I was right there!"
So I don't think Isaiah Washington's off-screen behavior affected how I felt about his character. For some reason, I was willing to follow his story lines for three seasons and now he doesn't even enter my thoughts while watching the show. People come and go from TV shows just as they come and go from your life. And, let's be honest, like life some people you miss more than other. (That's why I'm so happy Tony, Tony, Tony is coming back to 24. I never got over him leaving).
And I think I'm really going to miss Sara on CSI. I know her romance with Grissom divided the fans but I always enjoyed their quirky, dysfunctional courtship. CSI is not a show that gracefully weaves its characters story lines into the crime of the week. It was so awkward when Warrick told Catherine he was divorced. But I think because Grissom is such an awkward character it was okay when the series would inelegantly include their romance. And I kind of think Jorja Fox is irreplaceable in that aspect. I don't really want Grissom to date anyone else and I don't really want to see another romance on the show (I'm talking to you Catherine and Warrick).
Now I broke up with Prison Break but I think we were all shocked by the violent way Sara was written off the show -- especially because the Michael/Sara romance was one of the best things the show had to offer in the second season. To those of you who are still watching Prison Break, what did you think of the way Sara was written off the show.
Do you miss Dr. Burke? Are you going to miss Sara? Post your comments below.
Highlights for October 24 and 25
Blair Underwood begins his stint on Dirty Sexy Money at 10 p.m. on ABC. I have a very good feeling about this.
Scrubs returns for its seventh and final season Thursday at 9:30 on NBC. A long time ago I embraced the shows fantastical style and got on the bandwagon. And what I loved about the season premiere is that it really showcases what Scrubs does best -- I really believed what Elliot and J.D. were going through even amid all the show's flights of fancy. And Scrubs has created this world where I look forward to seeing secondary characters (a big high five to the Todd) and delight in the show's often obscure pop culture references (I love Dr. Cox's zings at Hugh Jackman. I'm just waiting for a Viva Laughlin joke later this season). I'm not even sure what I want to happen with J.D. and Elliot but I have a great deal of confidence that the show will end in a very satisfactory way. It's a four star season premiere so don't miss it. Also see if you can guess, which quote I've already made one of my quotes of the week this week.
Elizabeth Reaser is back as Ava on Grey's Anatomy Thursday at 9 p.m. on ABC. And I can't even tell you about how happy I am that Joshua Jackson will soon guest on the series as a doctor. We should see him starting in December. Hmmm . . .I so need to make an appointment at Seattle Grace. What's really interesting is that this is Jackson's first TV appearance since Dawson's Creek ended.
So I want to know do you like Ruby on Supernatural (Thursday, CW, 9 p.m.)? We've spent a lot of time today talking about cast departures but this was a very interesting cast addition.
That's all for today. I'm back Friday with this week's quotes of the week. Have a question? Seen a familiar face? Want to nominate a quote of the week. Write me at amytvgal@zap2it.com. And even though the World Series is making my TV viewing very complicated, I must once again say Go Red Sox!!

I really miss Burke. Washington is a very good actor and the show isn't the same without him. How are they going to bring Tony back realistically? I thought he died. This makes no sense.
I don't miss Burke at all. After he went all ****phobic last year, I found it weird watching his scenes with George. I just kept imagining how much Isaiah must be squirming inside having to work so closely with a ****sexual. It took a lot away from their scenes for me. That and the fact that Burke asked Derek to be his best man despite not really being friends and going around telling George that he was Burke's "guy" for a year.
I honestly can't even believe Grey's Anatomy is still a popular show. I began watching it from the very first episode ever and loved it. About halfway through last season, however, I gave up on it. The storylines had all been done before and I hate shows where everyone only dates people with whom they work. Silly.
I loved your take on Sara/Grissom. So refreshing to see someone who gets it and oh my GOD yes I'm going to miss Sara. I cannot tell you. I care more about Sara Sidle than any other character in the history of TV and I'm no spring chicken. I cannot believe she is leaving and I sersiously don't think I will watch when she's gone. It's breaking my heart. I also do NOT want to see Grissom move on. That would trivialize the last 8 years.
Count me in as one of those people not ready to quit Prison Break. But, really, kill Sarah?? Sarah and Michael are what the show was all about, now they just pick up and move to Panama and get rid of the relationship that held the series together? It's like this season, the writers decided to write a new show with the same title. We've all been following Linc and Michael's attempt to clear their names and find out what happend, now we're supposed to just feel bad for Whistler because they say he's connected to the company??? But then again, I still watch the show.
Oh TV Gal, what's up with not showing the love for Jennie Garth on Dancing? I thought your 90210 ties would have you talking more about her.
My break-ups are fast. No lingering pain. When it's over it's over. Although I miss my weekly Wentworth fix, I gave up on Prison Break four episodes into season two. I could not bear to watch, cute men behaving stupidly. I will admit they do aim for the dramatic when killing off their female leads. The garbage bag scene in the season two opener still makes me squirm.
DO NOT Miss Burke. At all. In fact I don't even miss Grey's Anatomy anymore. Izzie, my favorite Grey's character, with George. Oh please! Instant grounds for divorce. I'm too through. Haven't watched Grey's at all since midway through last season.
I am really going to miss Jorja on CSI. I do not plan on watching it anymore.
There's no reason Grissom should "move on" after Sara leaves the show. They're apparently not killing her off, so there's really not even any reason to break them up (they never showed them dating, so why not just have her get another job and let the relationship continue?). Even breaking them up doesn't mean we have to automatically replace their relationship with another one. I just with they'd use Greg more. Once he became a CSI, he's done very little of import on the show.
You guys realize Sarah and Grissom didn't break up, right? She just switched shifts so he wouldn't be her supervisor any more. And she only did that so that they could keep dating. I think it would be nice if the writers remind us of that from time to time - Grissom trying to leave work on time to go have dinner with Sara, or something like that. The rest of the groups' reaction whenever he mentions her would be interesting to see as well.
I remain in denial about Sara being dead on Prison Break. It's not true, and Michael and Sara will be together someday.
I was already losing interest after the first episode of Prison Break this season, and the final straw was that Sara was killed. She was by far my favorite character and having her gone just made the show not worth watching.
