One of the challenges of dressing the characters on 'The Vampire Diaries' is the show shoots in Atlanta, where there is good but somewhat limited shopping. The other is the color palette is very dark. "We don't have all the fantastic L.A. and New York shopping," costume designer Leigh Leverett says. "And sometimes when you are trying to buy dark colors in the spring you can run into problems because everything is bright and pastel-y." There are a couple of big malls in Atlanta, and Leverett does the rounds of every store to see what's new. "We do so many episodes fairly quickly and everyone has two to four changes an episode, so we have to have enough clothes for 22 episodes," she says. "We do multiples because people are always getting stabbed or bitten. We buy the initial piece and go online to find multiples all over the country sometimes." An exception would be...

Have you noticed that Shane and Andrea are looking a lot sexier these days on 'The Walking Dead'? Maybe not, given all the gut-wrenching drama and intense zombie apocalypse action surrounding them. But it's all part of Eulyn Womble's job: to help deliver the themes and character development of AMC's smash series through her work as costume designer. She recently discussed her approach to dressing a few characters - living and dead - and how wardrobe affects the show overall. After having Rick (Andrew Lincoln) ceremoniously put his sheriff's shirt away in Season 2, Womble decided his look should convey "wisdom" and that there is further development to come. "We went for a very fitted look on him," she says. "I can't reveal too much, but he does have a signature jacket," which she predicted will be as identifiable with him as the sheriff's shirt. Lori's (Sarah Wayne Callies) pregnancy and the group's move to...

"Wardrobe is very crucial in differentiating the two characters," she says. One way Trask does that is through color. She does a lot of black and white for Siobhan and more color for Bridget. "The idea is Bridget gravitating toward certain things in Siobhan's closet and trying to create her own looks," she says. Both characters wear a lot of Marni. Other brands include Prada, Opening Ceremony, Curve, Intermix and Beige. In addition to shopping at Barneys and Neiman Marcus, Trask goes to Beckley and Arcade boutiques in West Hollywood and vintage stores Resurrection and Decades in Los Angeles. She also likes a store that's more for stylists called stylehaüs.Trask says viewers wishing they had Siobhan's closet and budget to work with can try consignment stores, outlet versions of designers' stores, and places such...

"When the series started he was just divorced - he basically had two pair of jeans, two shirts and two jackets." And while things have changed somewhat for Raylan since the series began, he's still a pretty basic dresser: jeans, boots, shirt, coat and hat. "He wears Levi 501 jeans, never anything else," Prouty says. "And that overcoat we used in all of the press this year? The equivalent for a fashion designer is to create an outfit within 24 hours. That's the concept behind Lifetime's '24 Hour Catwalk,' premiering Tuesday, Jan. 10. It's a difficult task, complicated by additional challenges. Aspiring designers face judges, including designer Cynthia Rowley, publicist James LaForce and fashion writer Derek Blasberg. Alexa Chung hosts. The designers have sample makers who can get the sewing done in record time, but this is a major undertaking, as hopefuls create their own three-piece collections and meet challenges. Tony Peniche's black and gray dress is "an after-dusk garment," Rowley says. She can envision a woman wearing it to a gallery opening. "It's definitely expressive and free-form and has sort of a relaxed, disheveled kind of coolness." She would keep accessories...

And if there's a matriarch of creepy, weird and special, it's certainly Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange), the southern belle neighbor of Ben and Vivien Harmon. While rubber fetish suits and maids' uniforms are de rigueur for other characters, costume designer Chrisi Karvonides ("Pan-Am," "Big Love") has given Constance a wardrobe befitting her refined past, but leaves plenty of doubt about when exactly that past took place. "You never know if she is a ghost, if her heyday was in the '80s, '90s, '60s. You just never know when she was in her prime," Karvonides says.
