Kat Von D of 'L.A. Ink'
Maybe it's because we're part of the newspaper industry, but there's something about a girl with a little ink on her that appeals to us. And Kat Von D of L.A. Ink, airing Thursdays on TLC, has a little ink on her -- then spreads the wealth. In fact, Kat has inked some of our favorite people -- Eve, Jenna Jameson and Margaret Cho, just to name a few.
But Kat's own look is what inspires us this week. While we can't quite get over the fact that she's a perfect blend of Marie Osmond and Rumer Willis, the raven-haired beauty embraces a traditional Goth-like stance with a love of black leather and dark-colored items layered by multiple accessories such as wristbands, hoop earrings and lightning bolt necklaces. And let's not forget her trademark platform shoes. Her clothing choices -- whether it be sheer or lace shirts over bikini tops and low-rise pants (she loves to show the layering) -- always allow for her tattoos to peek out and make their statement. And her tattoos are works of art that deserve to be admired.
Of course, tattoos are matters of choice, and even if you love stars as much as Kat (she has them scattered on her face), we wouldn't presume to tell you what kind of ink to wear. But if you love Kat as much as we do, we can recommend a visit to her Web site to check out her online store. Filled with a great selection of T-shirts, tanks and hoodies emblazoned with her name, face, artwork or some combination of all three, the clothes are a subtle and less permanent reminder of your love for the girl. In women's, men's and juniors sizes they are well-priced and perfect to be cut up and modified to your personal taste, just as Kat tends to do. Like we said, the girl likes to let her skin peek through more than traditional clothing shapes allow -- so don't be afraid to take the scissors to these clothes.
Not surprisingly, makeup giant Sephora brought Kat on board to create a line of makeup and tools. She is so dedicated to the art of makeup that she even has her own makeup closet at home. Yes, closet. The line includes eye shadow sets, eyeliner, lipstick and brushes. After all, tattoos can only hide so much.
So what do we suggest to really pull the Kat look together? Start with a dark, patterned bikini, then add dark, low-rise skinny jeans such as the Laguna from Hollister Co. Then add something odd such as the Tango lace-up front shirt from ABC Underwear. Yes, it's for men -- apparently -- but it's an odd enough piece to layer over the bikini top and keep that Goth/bondage look going.
To finish things off, add the aforementioned accessories and head to Kat's shop, High Voltage Tattoo in Hollywood.
