The sky is falling, Part 3

By Leslie Gornstein

April 27, 04:33 PM

Rosieodonnell_ridingthebuswithmysister_2Extra just issued a press release stating breaking news: Rosie O'Donnell will replace the departing Meredith Vieira on The View. A full Extra report, plus a confirmation from ABC, are both expected tomorrow. Meantime, please pardon us while we shoot ourselves in the face with a double-barrel full of rock salt.

I don't think it's a bad thing...I would have preferred to see Rosie replace the "out of touch" Star Jones or the sanctimonious Elisabeth Hasselbeck

I agree with Keith Sload!

Oh..and I happen to like Rosie (maybe you do...maybe you don't) but did that have to put up THAT picture of her, I mean come on!

David | Apr 27, 2006 8:24:55 PM | #

Seeing as how Rosie has made a complete fool of herself the last 3 times she was on the View (memorialized by Tucker Carlson when she was so rude to him during one segment), this is the worst possible addition. Let the viewers vote like they did with Elisabeth when Lisa Ling left....

I thought that TMZ.com first reported it. Anyway, they will announce it tomorrow night during the Daytime Emmy Awards on ABC. Rosie will join the gals on stage during their presenting stint.
The View will be must see TV everyday just for Star's reaction to Joy and Rosie ganging up on her. IMO, this is a good thing if it makes both Star and Elisabeth quit or wear bags over their faces and gags in their mouths until their contracts expire.
Rosie has a huge fan base from her own show that will help boost The View's ratings. Also, the Emmy voters love her, so that may help them next year. This is a very smart and shrewd move by Barbara Walters.

Awesome addition to The View. I love Meredith and will miss her. Rosie is funny, bright and will place a new twist to The View. Now if only someone would ask Elisabeth to depart...life would be grand!

bruce | Apr 27, 2006 9:13:10 PM | #

God forgive you for adding Rosie to the View....I personally VIEW her as a disgusting sight and sound. She does not fit the bill, YUCK,YUCK,YUCK..........

Patricia | Apr 28, 2006 3:53:53 AM | #

I am happy to see Rosie come back to television. She will bring things back to a more level playing field.
Star Jones is so obnoxious anymore with her "mysterious" weight loss", "boob lift/implant......Lets not forget her wedding and how obnoxious that whole production was.
Good luck Meridith! You are wonderful and I might just switch from ABC to watch you!

Rose | Apr 28, 2006 4:26:08 AM | #

I don't know how I feel about this. I thought that they were going to replace that with someone like Meridith who I think is the one that takes charge of the hot topics and tries to keep the girls from talking over each other. I like Rosie, but I don't see her like that. Is she going to dress nicely everyday or is she going to be wearing sweats.

Maggie | Apr 28, 2006 5:54:46 AM | #

Why is everyone so down on Elisabeth? She seems to be a sweet, genuinely kind person. Wow, tough crowd these days. Star I can understand because she's so full of herself and her own importance.

Tracey | Apr 28, 2006 6:26:03 AM | #

I hope the show will continue. I forsee a failure. Rosie loud, like Joy (who I like), a comedian, brasey, no class. Is this a way to promote Gay and Lesbian acts? Elizabeth and Star where will they fit in? Don't get me wrong I love the View. I love the Hot Topics. Bad choice! No balance.

Dorothy Akrie | Apr 28, 2006 6:38:44 AM | #

I guess I will not be watching The View any more with that queer O'Donnell. It will not be anything I would want my children watching!

Barbara Kitz | Apr 28, 2006 7:00:58 AM | #

The View isn't for children, never has been.

Dorthea | Apr 28, 2006 7:19:38 AM | #

Rosie is hilarious and such a fun person to watch. What a great change for The View!

Sam | Apr 28, 2006 7:24:59 AM | #

Barbara - Please tell me you're kidding. Please.

Cindy | Apr 28, 2006 7:27:30 AM | #

Anything is better than Star! Remember it is suppost to be different views. It is pretty smart move!

margo | Apr 28, 2006 8:12:36 AM | #

KIND OF SURPRISED BUT I GUESS THEY WILL GIVE IT A TRY. NOW IF ONLY STAR WOULD LEARN TO DRESS APPROPRIATELY AND NOT AS IF SHE WERE GOING TO A BALL AND IF ELIZABETH WOULD STOP DRESSING IN ILL- FITTING UGLY CLOTHES , IT WOULD BE SO NICE. FUNNY THAT STAR SAID THAT PARIS HILTON IS FAMOUS FOR BEING PARIS, WHAT DOES SHE THINK BOTH SHE AND ELIZABETH ARE FAMOUS FOR?

JEAN | Apr 28, 2006 8:14:20 AM | #

Wow. Rosie O'Donnell. Not sure how to take it. I liked her show and thought she was hilarious, but she seems so angry and rude nowdays. It will be interesting to see how everyone interacts with each other.

Ruthie | Apr 28, 2006 8:45:18 AM | #

Barbara - But you do want your children growing up surrounded by prejudice? Great parenting!

Niki | Apr 28, 2006 8:59:05 AM | #

I like Rosie but I dont think this is the right fit. We already have 1 comedian who I enjoy. I like all the women an dhoped for a more serious personality to help tone down the overchat. Now i think it will be louder and Rosie is super opinionated. Does this mean no more Tom Selleck as a guest???

Patty | Apr 28, 2006 9:13:21 AM | #

There goes the show.

chris | Apr 28, 2006 9:26:23 AM | #

I am not quite sure if Rosie right choice. She has become quite obnoxious after her talk show. However, it will be interesting to see Star and Rosie together. CAT Fight in the future?????????

Lisa Lisa | Apr 28, 2006 10:14:20 AM | #

The end is nigh. The final sign of the coming apocalypse has come to pass. Daytime television truly is doomed.

Woody | Apr 28, 2006 10:23:02 AM | #

I am so sorry to hear the news about The View, and although it is called The View, it certainly won't be my view, so add my name to the growing list of women who will not longer be watching The View.

Eller | Apr 28, 2006 11:35:06 AM | #

That's OK - I will take your place. Add me to the list of women who will now start watching The View.
