VIDEO: Know someone serving in Iraq? Go see the Oscar-buzzed 'The Messenger'
Woody Harrelson, Ben Foster and Samantha Morton star in Oren Moverman's critically hailed and incredibly moving film about the soldiers who work in the Casualty Notification Office, "The Messenger."
Foster plays a soldier with three months left in his service who is assigned to notify the next of kin with Harrelson.
It's a tender, heartbreaking but hopeful film about love, loss, service, redemption, sacrifice and family.
Below, Moverman and Morton talk about the film and how timely it is given President Obama's recent appearance at Dover Air Force Base to bear witness to the returning coffins.
Morton also reveals the way this film deals with the effect of war on everyone with a family member in the military. She comes from a military family and her brother served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We have our TV and our movies, and our life isn't really affected unless you have someone in the military," Morton says.
"There's a lack of respect for the guys and women who do this job. When I saw the film, it gave me as a woman the sense that my story was being told," she says, adding shyly, "I'm very proud of this film."
