Words of warning to all singers: Australia does not appreciate lip-syncing one bit.
Australian critics and fans have blasted Britney Spears for lip-syncing on her Circus tour.
Now John Mayer, who is promoting his own album in Oz, is getting into the mix.
He tweeted: "If you're shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you."
Find out the syncing scoop:
About 100 angry fans reportedly stormed out of Britney's Friday concert in Perth, saying they were disappointed by her performance – and lack of singing -- during her show.
Spears also gave Perth fans a generic welcome, never mentioning their city's name.
"What's up, Australia?" she asked from the stage. "How you feeling tonight? It's so good to be here tonight. Your country is beautiful."
Politicians in three Australian states – Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales – have now called for new laws to force music promoters to disclose whether a concert will be live or lip-synced.
What do you think? And hey, can we do the same thing?
Of course, it's silly that they were surprised that she was lip-syncing.
You don't go to a Britney concert to watch musicianship. You go to a Britney concert to listen to CD versions of songs you hear on the radio, while watching her backup dancers. Right?
Regardless, this law makes sense. If fans are buying tickets to an event, they should be entitled to know just how 'live' it's going to be, even though it may be redundant for smaller acts.

Nice Poll, Liz. Where's the box I can tick for "Send this overpriced, overhyped, washed up drunk back to the U.S.A. -- pronto"? Or were you too scared of pissing her management off so you took the soft option of trying to make out the People of Perth are the ones with the problem in your poll responses?
As for John Mayer, I'd like to see him try and get away with miming to one of his CD's at a concert. Come to thinking of it, no I wouldn't...
We have dozens of international artists pass through our beautiful city every year, and respond warmly to most of them - Al Green will be here early 2010, and I'm damned sure HE won't be miming - but Ms Spears may as well have sent a body double if she can't be bothered singing.

Hey how about those MTV awards? She was marginally better lip synching was a part of it the whole concert has been universally panned here.Yes we understand she has an IQ of 5 and mimes but geez you cant just stand there move your solid bum in a daze and think people are happy.Maybe us Aussies just dont put up with crap and bad value for money.Might highlight why we dont have a recession here and all enjoy the highest standard of living on earth.

I wasn't the Lip Syncing, that's expected, it's how badly it was done! Britney appeared half asleep throughout the show and didn't seem to realise, or possibly care, that the show was second rate at best. We may be a small country, with a small audience, compared to the US but we pay full rate to see a good show and that's what we deserve.

Too bad that she is not talented enough to actually sing and perform in public.
Why pay for a live CD performance?

I'm surprised the lip syncing got so much media attention! As a Perth person with friends who went to the event, not one mentioned it although they mentioned plenty of other issues with her performance (weak dance moves, no interaction) or with the venue arrangements (i.e. "we paid US$193 and we could only see a distant dot because there was no screens"). None were particularly happy with the show.

If I paid 193$ American for a concert, it should be TOP notch!!! I agree with the law- fans should know how "live" the concert is going to be. I recently saw Santana here in Vegas- I was disappointed he didnt sing his own music, he played and the music was awesome, but he had a couple of other singers singing for him. I would have rather had superbly delivered lip syncing- if you can fool me- cool. But I should not be able to tell.
I also agree with Mick Dundee- how about some true options for your "poll"!

AH, Such a total waste of life are some of the Australian people. Bring a top act like Britney there and the smelly, retarded apes go mad and stomp their feet, LOL. Even Kylie, Madonna, Beyonce and even American Idol winners have at times lip synced.
It's not new! And everyone, but the apes seem to understand it's a mix of live and non-live. You go to see Britney. It's not the kind of concert where they sit at the piano, don't move, and sing. But even the top acts which are classics actually sound only mediocre live anyway. It's RARE to hear a great vocalist live and have it come across that way. Britney IS a show girl, like Kylie Minogue is. You will get 80% pre-recorded vocals! She does sing live sometimes, but it will be mixed with backing vocals. As for the uproar, some monkey somewhere decided to create the fuss and feed it as a troll would. I mean, what else could it be since Britney is world renowned for lip synching? Diagree if you think I'm wrong, but every one says she does. That said, it fully proves, 100% that the people helping to stir up the uproar are plants set up to cause that, or retards, or both.
As for those wanting a more harsh poll, you stone throwers need to check your heads and get out from the rocks you hide under, LOL. Seriously. Can you honestly say you are totally shocked at this and keep a straight face as you say it? If yes, you need to pay more attention. OMG. FN stupid people everywhere! lol
this is a fine law.
