'Underworld' Lycan Michael Sheen to play 'New Moon' Volturi vampire

Michael Sheen – known best among Oscar voters for his roles as British Prime Minister Tony Blair in "The Queen" and British talk show host David Frost in "Frost/Nixon" --  has been chosen to play the leader of the Volturi in "New Moon."

But talk about switching teams. He's actually leaping from his old "Underworld" wolf role to his new "Moon" vampire.

As obsessed horror fans know, Sheen played the Lycan hero Lucian in all three "Underworld" movies, most recently in this year's "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans."

After seeing this last film, we're surprised the actor has any vocal cords left.

Sheen has a daughter with Kate Beckinsale, who also stars in the "Underworld" series. Kate played a vampire heroine, Selene, in the first two films. Please tell us she's not gonna get cast in "Moon" next ...

This Volturi branch of the vampire family threatens Bella (Kristen Stewart) when she is separated from her MIA vampire beau, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).

She heads to Rome to save Edward from great danger, in spite of being attached closer to Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and his realm of werewolves.

Chris Weitz is directing "Moon," which began shooting last month in Vancouver, Canada, and is set for a Nov. 20 release by Summit Entertainment.

Why cast someone so well known for playing a werewolf in another horror franchise as the head of the Volturi vampires in the "Twilight" franchise?
