PamelaAnde_LFa_56977908_600 Maybe the recession is worse than we thought.

The current economic downward spiral and rising unemployment rate may have caused Pamela Anderson to sell her immortal soul or, at the very least, sacrifice her scruples.

The actress-model has posed naked for PETA's "I'd rather go naked..." anti-fur campaign, and has been one of the animal rights group's biggest celebrity spokespeople. She's even spoken out on behalf of chickens!

Now Pam reportedly has been booked to appear at the opening of a gentlemen's (read: strip) club-slash-steakhouse in NYC.

She and another apparently hard-up honey, "The Hills' " Audrina Patridge, will show up for the April 27 opening of a new gentlemen's club named Sapphire New York, which Fox News says is part of Prime 333 Steakhouse on the Upper East Side.

According to the invite, the former "Baywatch" babe and "The Hills" hottie will be joined by former "Sopranos" star Steve Schirripa. He played Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri) and, frankly, looks like he eats meat pretty consistently.  Lindsay Lohan's ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson will spin the tunes. Guess that means Lindsay won't be allowed in.

We can't wait to see the PETA press release kicking Pam off the animal rights bandwagon.

UPDATE: THIS JUST IN: FROM A PETA PUBLICIST:

"Per your item today regarding Pamela Anderson, please note that Pam is not a host but may be attending as an invited guest, and since steakhouses nowadays have some of the best salad bars and veggie options around, we're sure she'll find plenty to eat should she attend. We hope you'll clarify your item."

Amanda Schinke, PETA  Media Campaigns Coordinator.

Clarification done. But here's some more clarifying.

'Invited guests' who are also celebrities are routinely paid large sums of money to attend functions like this one because these events would not be covered by the press without any stars present. So its still a matter of dollars and sense.

Just saying.

She's a hypocrite.

We vegetarians don't live in a bubble. We eat in restaurants and shop in stores that serve meat. And no, our employers don't always share our convictions, but I'm sure a lot of journalists feel the same way at times about their employers.

Animal rights ???

Non business is business !!

Please, Pam Anderson is also quick enough to have cosmetic surgery even though the drugs used are tested on animals. She's a hypocrite, get over it.

Sure, but if you were also a celebrity spokesperson against meat why would you lend your celebrity status to such an occasion?
