Kellogg's dumps Michael Phelps for smoking pot!
Cereal and snack manufacturer Kellogg's has announced that it will not renew its sponsorship contract with Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps
The reason? According to AP, because Phelps acknowledged smoking marijuana in a bong pipe. Duh.
The company claims that Phelps's behavior -- caught on camera and published last Sunday in Britain's News of the World -- was "not consistent with the image of [Kellogg's]."
The company has already put Phelps' picture on boxes of its Frosted Flakes and Corn Flakes.
And so it begins....
Breaking News Update: Michael Phelps has been suspended for three months by USA Swimming!
Although no anti-doping rule was violated, the Colorado-based federation said: "We decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero"
He's also lost their financial support for three months.
Phelps has kept the backing of many sponsors since the photos surfaced showing him inhaling from a marijuana pipe. However, this decision - and Kellogg's reaction - may affect Phelps' other endorsement accounts.
There has been no comment from Phelps' agent.
Kellogg's said its contract with Phelps expires at the end of February.
What do you think about Kellogg's decision? Is it fair? Will others follow? Should they? What about the USA Swimming's slap on the wrist? Was it a good idea?
Did anyone save their Kellogg's Phelps box? Cause I'm thinking, collectors' item! And EBay!

Kellogg's is spineless. No Kellogg's, Keeeblers or other nutritionless products in our house. We, too, will look for perfection, and it won't be Kellogg's!
I think we should all dump Kelloggs! Let's all fight for our right to puff, man.
C'mon, Kelloggs...
Michael Phelps did something HUMAN... he succumbed to the almost-universal human impulse to use a substance to temporarily- and mildly alter his state of being. He didn't trip out on LSD, or get caught in a Meth lab...
Yes, Phelps has almost-super-human prowess as a swimmer - but this doesn't mean he MUST live 24/7 as an infallible being in EVERY other aspect of his life. As a dedicated child athlete, he probably missed a lot of chances to just be a "goofy kid" - and if some of those needs to be goofy peep out occasionally, I think he's allowed.
Save your slings & arrows for sports stars who "cheat" their way to success by using steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
I am sorry that some had to sell this photo to the media. I wonder how they feel now and willing to come forward? I am very disheartened with Kellog and will not buy any of their products as a result of this. I guess everyone at Kellog is perfect? Especially those at the top of the food chain! Good bye Kellog ...big mistake..huge!!
lets DUMP kellogs.they are not healthy like other brands.I only bought it because Michael was on the box.
America needs to realize that pot-smoking is not necessarily a hindrance. Clearly one can achieve much even if they smoke pot. Stop believing the lies! Let the free citizens of this country have a choice in how to pursue their own happiness. And stop being so judgmental.
Good for Kelloggs. This seems to be a pattern for Phelps. 1st he was caught for a DUI said he was really sorry and won't happen again. Then he's caught smoking dope and says he's really sorry and won't happen again. He accepted millions of endorsements he's not like other 24 year olds. There accountability and responsibility to accept all that money and become a corporate pitchman.
If he can't handle that, then give back the money and don't represent any companies. Nothing in life comes for free. Stop enabling him and let him enjoy some consequences for his poor choices.
so, potheads should stop supporting kellogg's.. think about all the missing money from the munchies!!!
Kelloggs is stupid and ignorant. They should learn about marijuana before dumping their best sponser.
You can guess what cerial I just threw out
Granted, marijuana is still considered a Schedule I narcotic by the DEA, which means are government doesn't think there exists a therapeutic use for marijuana. The 13 states that do use marijuana medically, conflict with that classification for the drug. I guess Kellogs is just going with the majority. Not that I agree with it.
