Hugh Jackman to host Oscars? Oh, no. More singing/dancing?
Presumably because it's a given that he won't be nominated for his role in Baz Luhrmann's "Australia," Hugh Jackman will host the 81st Academy Awards show.
This will be Jackman's first time hosting the awards show, although he's previously been a presenter.
"Hugh Jackman is a consummate entertainer and an internationally renowned movie star," said the show's producers, Lawrence Mark and Bill Condon, in a joint statement. "He also has style, elegance and a sense of occasion. Hugh is the ideal choice to host a celebration of the year's movies -– and to have fun doing it."
Jackman, who stars in the Golden Globe-snubbed epic "Australia," will next be seen in yet another X-Men installment, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
His other film credits include "The Prestige," "Flushed Away," "The Fountain," "Happy Feet," "Van Helsing," "Kate & Leopold" and "Swordfish."
The Australian native won the 2004 Tony Award for best actor in a musical for his performance in "The Boy from Oz."
He has also hosted the Tony Awards ceremony and won a 2005 Emmy for that gig.
Maybe he can get an Oscar for being the Oscar host?
No, wait. That won't work.
To see what we may have in store for us on Oscar night, check out Jackman's "Man from Oz" Peter Allen impersonation on the Tony Awards after the jump.
Hey, anyone who can get prim and proper Sarah Jessica Parker to do a bit of a bump-and-grind onstage can surely loosen up the stuffy Oscars.
Oh, that leopard print chiffon shirt and those gold lame pants! Is it just us or is Hugh a little too comfortable in that flamboyantly fey Peter Allen bisexual persona?
Will you watch Hugh host the Oscars? Or do you already have something better to do that night?

What's wrong with you, Hugh is Australian, so what? He is as talented as a lot of US comedian and he do his best in everything he do. Stop being US centering, there is a world beside yours
now i have an excuse to watch them..great !!! I think you should have posted the one only where he hosted the tonys are u biased??lol
Are you kidding? Of COURSE I'll see the sexiest man alive. Might even catch the Oscars, while I'm at it.
And what's wrong with singing and dancing? I had the GREAT pleasure of seeing Hugh do The Boy from Oz on Broadway, and he's not only a terrific performer, he's a better actor than his screen roles let on. He's really amazing in person. I think this is a brilliant pick, myself.
Geez! He hasn't even hosted them yet and the claws are out already. As an Aussie I'm immensely proud of this multi-talented bloke but most of all I feel protective of him and how he is treated in your country. He's a typically genuine, nice, slightly daggy, Aussie larrikin who doesn't deserve your Hollywood cattiness. He will cause me to watch the Oscars for the first time in decades.
WoW ! He sure does a great B&B.
Now I might just have to watch the Oscars !
Hugh Jackman is a fabulous talent and an old-time song and dance man. I can't wait to see him!!
Perfect choice for Oscar host - he deserves to be in the spotlight.
Loved Hugh Jackman, loved the musical numbers
