Actorpete_steve_14620141_600 According to Peter Falk's daughter, Catherine, her actor dad has Alzheimer's and dementia.

Ironic that the actor who played the forgetful rain-coated detective on TV's "Columbo," whose trademark was "Just one more thing," has developed this memory- and personality-robbing condition.

According to TMZ.com, Catherine Falk filed legal papers in L.A. County Superior Court claiming her father, 81, "requires full-time custodial care for his health and safety."

Her papers also state that she is worried her father "can easily be deceived into transferring away property" and believes a conservatorship will protect him from "fraud or undue influence."

A hearing on the matter is set for next month.

We are so sorry to hear about Peter's condition and pray for him and his family. Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease.

Anyone else who wants to send their sympathies to the Falk family, please leave a comment here. I'm sure there are millions of readers who have also lost mothers and fathers to this horrible disease.

In case you want to help stop it, here's the website for the Los Angeles chapter of the Alzheimer's Assn.

On March 4, the association will host its 17th annual "A Night at Sardi's," the entertainment industry's big fundraiser. This year's event will be "Damn Yankees," featuring TV's top stars, such as Jason Alexander and others.

Hopefully, Peter Falk will be able to be there too.

I wish Peter all the best-Alheizmer's is very sad-and I hope he and his family find some peace. Nancy Reagan did such a service by speaking up about this disease.

That's odd, he has been seen starring in newer movies for the Hallmark Channel lately. He looks old but he seemed to do his lines alright. I wonder if this is real alzheimers or a case of mistaken loyalties. Whatever the case I wish the best for Mr. Falk.

I'm so sad to learn of Peter Falk's condition. I grew up watching Columbo with my parents and we all enjoyed the show so much. My heart goes out to him and his family.

My best wishes to the Falk family during their difficult time. Alzheimer's disease has robbed so many of us of loved ones and must be stopped. Hopefully it will soon through the efforts of so many to support the needed research.

I'm very saddened to hear that Mr Falk has such a horrible illness. I'd like to give my sincere best wishes to him and his family. He has given me and my family years of entertainment, I admire him very much.

I truly enjoyed Columbo..Peter Falk is an excellent actor...I do wish only the best for Mr. Falk and his family....My prayers are with you...

Best wishes to Peter Falk and his family from Czech Republic.Yes, Peter Falk is an excelent actor...

All the best to Peter Falk, a wonderful actor and marvelous guy. Peter's Lt. Columbo is a classic, but my favorite character that he played in television and films is Max, the hapless--and feverishly determined--assistant to Jack Lemmon's evil Professor Fate in Blake Edwards's very funny movie THE GREAT RACE.
