Matt Lauer divorce talk on 'Today Show': Can you say awkward?
On the "Today Show "this morning, Matt Lauer introduced an upcoming segment on divorce by asking what is the right age to get married.
His cohost Meredith Vieira replied, "I dunno. I got married in my 30s. Then she asked the once-divorced Lauer: "When did you get married?"
Gulp.
Sore subject. Matt is still married to his second wife, Annette, a Dutch model. Although they did separate, and she did file for divorce, they are currently still together and recently had their third child.
Looking clearly uncomfortable with where the banter was going, Lauer kept talking while Vieira giggled and stammered, saying, "Let's just start this show over."
Lauer plowed ahead, reading from the teleprompter about how your age affects finding a mate and, more importantly, "living happily ever after."
Meredith: "I don't think I'm gonna be one of those that live happily ever after after this show."
You got that right, Meredith. What do you think? Did Matt handle this marital grilling well?
ont

No, I don't think he handled it well. He should have just answered the question and moved on. Now everyone will speculate as to he marital woes (or bliss?).
Who really cares? A model. Each worth millions. Do I care that everyone on t.v. is human? Should they make the banter more boring?
If Matt is still re-living "the embarrassment" of his divorce, he is clearly not far past it. And it isn't like the writers don't tell the talent what will be on the show. He had to know in advance. So I say bad form on Matt for not having at least a dumb cover story ready for air time.
Matt's hair transplants are what's killing his marriage.
are you kidding me - why would anyone care??????
All he had to say was..."The first time or second?" Laughed and moved on. He's usually extremely quick...but not this morning.
Who cares? He's still making people laugh - awkward or not. What is the right age to get married? I say, it depends on the person but for entertainers - don't get married! As Simon Cowell says!
I just assumed they freaked out because he was gay so I came here looking for the real reason.
I totally don't get why he couldn't answer this question or why it was so taboo for her to say it. I know nothing about Matt Lauer, but if he's getting divorced it's not important enough to make the news I read.
I too thought he may have been gay, after the awkward moment - I knew he had a ring on his finger - but couldnt understand the awkwardness of it all... I'd gladly switch places with Matt - he can have MY life; I'll take his!
