Oprah, Madonna, George Clooney congratulate Barack Obama
Oprah and George Clooney kept mum on Barack Obama for months.
They were trying not to negatively influence the election for their presidential candidate with their celebrity status.
But now they're speaking out. Here's what they -- and some other not-so-silent famous folks -- said about Obama's presidential win.
"There are not even words to talk about what this night means. It's one of the greatest moments I could ever imagine. That's how great it is."
Oprah
"I'm so [expletive deleted] happy right now."
Madonna (of course)
"YES WE CAN."
"YES WE DID!!"
Samantha Ronson
"HI MOM, OBAMA WON!"
Kanye West, whose mom passed away about a year ago.
"This will go down in history, in black history for all of the sacrifices that the great Joseph Lowery and Martin Luther King made, this actually pays off for their sacrifice. The great Rosa Parks.... So many people sacrificed for us to have a voice. It was one thing to have a voice, but to eventually know the best way to use it and then it grows into this, it's just incredible. I'm speechless. I don't even know what to say."
Usher told Access Hollywood.
"I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it's time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces."
George Clooney's statement
"I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I just felt like, Martin Luther King, and I felt the whole civil rights movement, I felt all that energy, and I felt my kids. It was all there at one time. It was a joyous moment."
"I got up at 7:20 this morning, and I voted for Barack. I haven't had this much optimism in a long time. Tonight is historic!"

As a Black women, I was excited to be part of this historic time; but, let's not forget Congress represents the people, the President is the servant of the people. I was more concerned w/ the Senate race because they speak directly for us. We must continue to watch Congress closely to make sure thet represent us, not their own interests.
What a brave man President elect Barrack is to take on such a mess. What a wonderful story for future generations to read about! I'm sure that if former President Kennedy was still alive he would surely be elated! We live in exciting times! We need to once again see Camelot ........Come back George........................
Please make note of the education levels of the individuals quoted on this page. I apologize but I must cut it short, Barack Obama is setting me up with a job interview and getting me affordable health care. Good day folks.
Hello, I just write for that website, so please do not call them and get me fired for what I'm about to say. I beg. Ok. Moving on. Is Los Angeles really that boring? I know fashion is a staple industry in the modern age (the past modern age in the middle 1900s I'll call vieux-nouveau, instead of calling today "post-modern," a pretenious move by any writer in any measure. That is a didactic term for artists who might have talent, but have been coaxed into writing conceptually shaky explanations of their work due to pallid academics). But the age has now been switched from white to not white. Fashion is now turned off. It remains an industry as fascinating as the metal alloy brad tack industry. Where's the aesthetics? There are no aesthetics in fashion - the opposite in fact, mere opinions. Mrs. Obama has funk, spice, strut and soul. And soul is an old trick you can't teach to white or non-white egotistical people perpetually worried about social standing and their spectrum of impressions made. If fashion is so important artistically, how come set designers are left to be drowned in obscurity, when their works produce so much more impact on the hearts and minds of theatrical audiences? Probably the same reason film scores are not imporant - because they actually make an impact through high art and genius. Why are jazz musicians, the monks of the craft of all music, left to be in the same boat while urban and rural embryos alike, who have never even been interested in band, or may have picked on those that were, release twenty hit rap or hip-hop albums in the span of only weeks? The people, My Dear Snead, are artless as a body. They don't need your elbowing them into believing that art has anything to do with morals, or reasons to like someone or dislike someone. That's overwhelmingly the message of fashion columns - not mere joshing, but trashing. People will honestly never like her again because of your expert advice to abhor her for her taste in fabric and dye arrangements. That's what your industry boils down to - fabric and dye arrangements. Talk about creative. Thank God I only write and do not have a chic apartment in Malibu... I can't stand Malibu. The style of any true rogue story getter is more a la Mendocino or Owl Farm. There, am I hired?
