William Shatner feels nothing but 'pity' for George Takei

Why didn't "Star Trek" costars George Takei invite William Shatner to his wedding, one of California's first legal same-sex ceremonies?

And what was the long-ago beef between these guys, anyway?

Turns out it has nothing to do with George being gay.

Billshatner_georgetakeiAt least, that's Shatner's explanation.  Although, after watching this video, I'm still not sure what's really going on. Is it really all about close-ups?

I find it hard to believe that Bill doesn't know the man. I mean, George was more than just a bit player, like Bill makes him out to have been. Wasn't he?

But then again, maybe Bill's right. Maybe it's time to bury the hatchet, let bygones be bygones, forgive and forget.

Or maybe George just plain doesn't like Bill and never will.

What do you think? Any Trekkies out there know the inside scoop?

I've met numerous people that have worked with Shatner - including his other TV series TJ Hooker and Boston Legal. I have yet to find someone that said that they enjoyed working with him. He is described as completely self-centered over and over again.

It speaks volumes that Shatner's Celeb Roast on Comedy Central had a scarcity of his co-stars over the years participating.

That being said - I don't have respect for George Takei either. I will never forget how he promoted his autobiography. That's when he publicly started trashing Shatner. My mother's comment has always stuck with me, "You mean the most interesting thing in his life is someone else?"

Had I been promoting his book I would have emphasized what the first half of the book was about. As a child George and his family were living in a Japanese internment camp. He could have used the press attention to focus on that and educate people that either don't know about it or don't realize how serious that issue is and was. Instead, he trashes Shatner - something that he continues to do on Howard Stern's Show and elsewhere.

Neither man is worth respecting and both of them should FINALLY grow up!

I have nothing against gay marriage or gay sex. But I do have a problem with old people having sex.

I think we need a constitutional amendment.

The show ended nearly 40 years ago.

William Shatner is a pompous man. I've met George Takei and he's such a gentleman-the problem has to be Shatner-he needs to grow up. Good for George-I hope he has all the happiness in the world.

I've seen George on a variety of appearances and video clips over the years. Having set through all that I'm left to wonder what George Takei would be able to talk about were he forbidden to rather graphically talk about his gay experience and his loathing of Bill Shatner. There doesn't seem to be anything else either in his head or in his life save that.

The fiction:

Marriage... the Final Frontier. These are the continuing voyages of Zulu. His(Her) ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

The reality:

I think Captain Bill will say yes, Mr. George will say no to Prop 8.

Ben Folds likes working with William Shatner.

I think they're both great and can become friends,

For what it's worth Jay Thomas, who skewers his radio guest seconds after being out of earshot, said the opposite. He said Bill was great to work with and anything but self-centered. And as a passive observer I have to say Bill's willingness to parody himself over recent decades and his past defining role on TOS speaks well of his temperament. Until recently he's ignored George's punches and jabs.

While I really like George I think he is beyond obsessed over Shatner and disliking him...if anything George has let his dislike define part of him along side his openness. When a guy chooses to step on a 40 year ago co-workers photo when announcing his marriage it's not Bill who has the problem. He denigrates Shatner and ANY opportunity and might want to find his own peace.

Sulu - put down the sword - Kirk's shirt is torn enough and he just might start Kirk-kicking back more if you don't visit Bones & take a big chill pill.

If homosexuality was normal, than men should be able to produce children with other men. There is a reason there are two genders, REPRODUCTION! If it was completely natural to be with the opposite sex, then we wouldnt need two genders, we would just be one unisex gender. If everyone started being gay the population would die off.
