Let's see if we can get this latest political news straight.
To disprove the nasty Web rumors that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's youngest child, who has Down Syndrome, actually belongs to her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, Palin has announced that Bristol is five months pregnant and plans to marry the baby's father. But Levi Johnston, the baby's dad, has written on his Myspace blog that he doesn't want kids.
Apparently, John McCain's camp knew before they picked Palin as their VP choice that her daughter was pregnant out of wedlock.
Are they crazy to pick such a hot potato for a running mate? Yup, crazy like a den of right-wing foxes.
The Palins, in a statement released by the McCain campaign, said Bristol "came to us with news that we as parents knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned." They wrote that their daughter "has our unconditional love and support. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."
Is Sarah Palin the Lynne Spears of politics? Sure looks like it.
Judging by the overwhelming number of readers who have left supportive comments on the Dish Rag about 15-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears deciding to keep her illegitimate baby, I suspect McCain's camp has researched how many thousands -- if not millions -- of young women in the U.S. have gotten pregnant in their teens or have daughters in the same situation as Bristol.
The Dish Rag reader approval rating for Jamie Lynn keeping her baby far outnumbered those who thought she should have aborted or given up the baby for adoption. Yes, she made a mistake. But she was doing the right thing by having and keeping the child.
Why, this baby is a sure-fire, motivating vote-getter! This unwed pregnancy is pure election-year gold! Or is it?

Or do you feel, like Lindsay Lohan does, that talking about this issue only detracts from having an important discussion about Palin's qualifications and her leadership capabilities?

Lindsay Lohan wrote in her blog this week:
"I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place. Its distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences."
She goes on.
"I get Sarah Palin's views against abortion, but I would much prefer to hear more about what she can do for our country rather than how her daughter is going to have a child no matter what. Maybe focus on delivering some words and policy with stronger impact like Joe Biden."
She keeps going on about how important sex education is:
"I think that parents need to recognize how important it is to talk to their children about the things that can result from being sexually active if they aren't protecting themselves (birth control, condoms, etc.)"
What has the world come to when LiLo starts to make sense?

"America First" or "Family First" Which will it be?
Governor Palin may be able to take her baby to work with her and nurse during a meeting as Governor of Alaska - a state with a population of 626,000 people. It is a different story being the VP of the United States. No CEO in any corporation would do such a thing. I think a woman with children is certainly capable of being the VP or president of the US, but I do question the judgment and "family first" priority of a new mother with a newborn having special needs.
When it comes down to it, where will her allegiance be? With the MILLIONS of people relying upon her to lead the country, or with her children, whether they be pregnant, sick or whatever the issue? Will she be in the Middle East brokering a peace deal and suddenly have to fly home to attend to the health care needs of her infant son? She would be a cruel, heartless mother if she did no less, but she will be an ineffective, laughable joke of a world leader if she places her family priorities ahead of her country.
People eat up reading about the rich and famous who act trashy.
But it's NOT who they want to vote for.
McCain had better dump Palin fast if he wants to win.

Palin's family is not the issue. The issue is McCain's gambling nature and willingness to go forward with "faulty intelligence" just like Bush did.

It's Sarah Palin running for VP, not her children.
What has the world come to when people think it (for some unknown reason) worth printing what Lindsay Lohan thinks. Why? She is good looking but a bit messed up herself.
Let's also not forget that Levi's Myspace sports a giant 'Obama for President' graphic in his "About Him" section.

If so, that's not very good advertising (for McCain-Palin, that is--it's great for Obama!)
"The Dish Rag by Elizabeth Snead" - Oh, how utterly appropriately named! I'm glad nobody's pretending this is 'news' or 'newsworthy' - I'd even go so far as saying it's not print-worthy! Can we rise above this? I believe so.
The National Enquirer piece of the story is the toe-hold but a few other pieces have surfaced that creates a kind of one-two punch. There is a kind of synergy of a story that can be run both in People magazine and Time magazine. It's like imagine the synergistic amplification if Paris Hilton were also the President of America. I am sorry for the big heat of that spotlight on Palin and her family. I conclude Palin has horrible judgement to have decided to try running for vice president. IT sounds like a sitcom except real lives are at stake. God bless them.
