StevenpageBarenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page admitted to New York police that he was snorting cocaine before his arrest last week, court documents allege.

But according to a statement on the band's website, he will plead not guilty to charges of possession of a controlled substance.

The statement reads "Many of you have probably read or heard press accounts about Steven Page's recent arrest in New York State. Steven has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and the validity of the charges against Steven will be strongly contested. While this is happening, it's business as usual for Barenaked Ladies. We will continue to perform and look forward to heading into the studio later this year to record a new album. We want to thank our loyal fans for their continued support during this difficult time."

But in a statement to police filed with the court, a woman arrested with him told the police that she and Page had just snorted what she believed to be cocaine through a rolled-up Canadian bill.

A separate court document states that police questioned Page about the substance after it tested positive for cocaine. "Yeah, it's cocaine," the documents quote Page.

Police allege Page had about a third of an ounce of the drug on him at the time of his arrest.

Page, a resident of Toronto, is scheduled to appear in a New York court on August 26. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

But legally, possession is not the same as use. Page could claim that the cocaine was not actually his.

wow! and to think they recently put out a kids cd!!! i guess this means their upcoming Disney appearance is called off!!

O.K. I love BNL as do my children..... Why did Disney kick them off the blck party tour? bet if Steven's last name was spears and he was a pregnant teen he could still perform in the show!

I am saddened by this about Steven. I love BNL and hope and pray that he gets back on the right track.

I don't care what Steven does on his personal time. He is a great guy with an amazing voice and talent for writing songs.. Leave the guy alone and let him continue to make music for all of us to enjoy.

Well, I don't think he should get special treatment for being a musician, though I do think fifteen years in prison is WAY too long for cocaine possession. >_> So what if he snorted cocaine?

As far as getting kicked off of the Block Party tour goes, they didn't get kicked off. They resigned willingly. See how nice they are?

Oh well, at least Disney has TMBG now on that tour.

I am a huge fan of BNL and even though I am very anti-drug I love the band more than I hate drugs.

I just am glad to know they are continuing performing for thier fans at this rough time for them.

Steve's an honest man, and as a result he will have to pay huge sums of money to the so-called legal establishment that is designed not to reduce or eliminate the problems associated with drugs but rather profit from them. The judicial system is a "pimp" to the drug system and will profit immensely. As unfornuate as it is, Steve needed an escape that was beyond what Molson could offer him, but then again, he might have ended up dead behind the wheel or worse a hoare for MAD if he just drank alcohol. We live in a crazy society, one that pushes people to escape and then lambasts them for trying.
