Abigail Breslin refuses to cut her hair like Kit Kittredge!

Will Abigail Breslin's side-parted blond page boy -- seen in the new film "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" -- start a new prepubscent girl hair craze?

Given the enormous popularity of the American Girl doll/toy/clothing/accessories/videos/books, etc., with young girls, it's quite possible.

But don't expect the Oscar-nominated actress ("Little Miss Sunshine") to fall victim to a trend, even one she starts.

For one thing, that's not her real hair in the film. It's a wig.

She told The Dish Rag at the LA premiere at The Grove on Saturday afternoon, "I really don¹t know if I could handle having my own hair really short, but wearing the wig was fun."

"It didn¹t really feel that different but felt like I was wearing a hat. But I¹d never do that to my real hair, because I like putting it in a ponytail."

"I really don't like short hair."

Clearly, Abigail Breslin is already a young woman who knows her own mind. Not like some wanna-be child stars we could mention. Okay, Ali Lohan, who is already aping "Gossip Girl"inspired hair accoutrements.
