What brought 'Desperate Housewife' Gabrielle Solis to Cannes?

Eva Longoria Parker did an excellent impersonation of her "Desperate Housewives" character --  spoiled, selfish, spendthrift glamour puss Gabrielle Solis -- at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

Parker's a paid spokesmodel for L'Oreal, a major sponsor, so no doubt why she got such a great free ride at the fest.

She showed up modeling fancy designer couture gowns on several carpets, just like a real movie star. Which she's not. She was on the same "Kung Fu Panda" red carpet with Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie, who actually had two films at the fest.

And she even attended the opening night private dinner (wearing a gold sequin Ferragamo frock) to hang out with all the real A-list stars and jury members.

But then things turned tacky.

Gabrielle, sorry, Eva also did some mega-shopping at a Gerard Darel boutique in Cannes, along with her burly bodyguard to protect the small-screen starlet from ... who, exactly?

Wait, seems he did have a job after all!

First, he had to make sure she could pose smiling outside the shop right in front of the sign! Hey, a small price to pay for all that free booty she picked up.
