Verne Troyer is the hardest working little person in Hollywood.

He's been in dozens of films, including "Mighty Joe Young" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." But he's probably best known for playing Mini-Me, the miniature version of Dr. Evil in the "Austin Powers" films.

Not only does he work hard, but for a little guy, Troyer could party like a larger-than-life rock star. And, in recent years, he's become known for his perpetual partying. Even his ex-wife has been worried.

Now come reports that the actor was rushed to the hospital today - with flu-like symptoms - in Burnaby, British Columbia, where he was shooting "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," Heath Ledger's last movie.

Troyer checked into rehab for alcoholism back in 2006. But his rep has denied that Troyer is being treated for a drug-related problem. According to Us Weekly, a source on the film explained, "He's been working really hard on the film. They just wanted to hydrate him."

Oh, I get it. You mean like "they" used to have to "hydrate" Lindsay Lohan when she was admitted to  hospitals for "dehydration" or "exhaustion?" That kind of hydrating?

In February, Troyer talked to Us Weekly about struggling with addictions. "You have to have people to help you," he told Us. "You need to reach out and tell people that you have a problem and just say, 'I need help.' There are a lot of people out there that will help."

Here's hoping Verne gets whatever help he needs. We'd miss him!

As Troyer said, "There are a lot of people out there that will help." But many celebrities are pushed into 12-step programs that do not work for most people. The AddictionInfo site has many articles about the struggles of talented people, as well as evidence-based research and treatment.
