Diablo Cody told us at the Spirits on Saturday that she'd wear a leopard-print Dior gown to the Oscars today.

Why? Because leopard print is so wild! "It's not too crazy, but it's cool for a writer!" she explained.

Kellypres_kevin_12907238_600Back in January, she told us, "I'd love to go the Oscars just so I can shake up the carpet a bit. What happened to those days of Bjork and Cher? We need more shockers, not all this safe stuff. We need more crazies!"

But leopard print?  Eh. Maybe Diablo didn't watch last year's Oscars. Kelly Preston already rocked in a Dolce & Gabanna leopard-print gown and made several worst-dressed lists.

But the big question is, will the Oscar-nominated screenwriter wear Stuart Weitzman's specially designed $1-million Retro Rose shoes on the red carpet?

The"Juno" screenwriter wrote Friday on her MySpace blog: "They're using me to publicize their stupid shoes and NOBODY ASKED ME. I would never consent to a lame publicity stunt at a time when I already want to hide."

Oh, please. Get used to it, Diablo, darling. Or you'll never get dressed in this town again.

Trust me, Dior didn't loan you an Oscar gown because they're really, really nice people. They did it so you'd mention their name. And you already have. It's promotional. That's how this stuff works. So unless you plan on wearing vintage Silver Lake chic forever, you'll have to learn to play the Celebrity Fashion Game. See, its already working. I've mentioned Dior three times in one blog item.

Weitzman has now told AP about the tootsie tussle: "I would expect she probably won't wear them. She made that very clear," he said, adding, politely, "It's Diablo's day, and she can do whatever she wants. I'm just embarrassed that she wrote what she wrote."

We'll try to talk to Diablo about all this on the carpet. There has to be more to this story!

Photos: Diablo already did leopard print at the Orange British Academy Film Awards in London, and Kelly Preston already slinked the Oscar carpet in leopard print in 2007.
