"Rose" Best Actress Marion Cotillard will wear Chanel
French actress Marion Cotillard, 30, who gives an astonishing virtuoso performance as the tragically doomed chanteuse Edith Piaf in "La Vie En Rose," is no stranger to acting awards.
She's already won several film festival honors as well as the 2004 Chopard Trophy for Female Revelation at Cannes, a Best Supporting Actress Cesar (Think the French Oscars) in 2005 and the Breakthrough Performance Award at this year's Palm Springs Film Festival.
Tonight she'll pick up the Best Actress of the Year honors at the Hollywood Awards; sure to be the first of many such trophies during the 2008 Awards Season
Fittingly, this evening Marion will accept the award for her portrayal of Piaf wearing a Chanel creation. Over lunch at the Four Seasons today, the denim-clad, make-up free beauty noted a similarity between Coco and Edith: "They were both very strong, powerful women."
She also adores other French designers, including Jean Paul Gaultier. But there's no planned awards wardrobe. "You can't really think of this before the nominations. I don't want to put the cart before the horse."
Still, she admits that all the awards season buzz is exciting.
"The part I prefer in my job is the be on the set. But what is exciting about this awards thing is that there are so many actors and directors here whom I have admired for so many years. To know that you could share your work and your emotions with all these amazing people who are part of my desire to be an actress... Well, I really like this. It's wonderful."
