Helen's stripper shoes and sordid style past
Oscar frontrunner Helen Mirren wore a pair of Lucite heeled platform "stripper shoes" again at last night's Miramax and Jo Malone British Fragrance House party at the Sunset Towers. "I found them on Hollywood Boulevard for $49.99," she explained.
Helen says they are very, very comfortable and have been quite a boost to her fashion image. The heels also made it easier for her to whisper into her very tall co-nominee Peter OToole's ears last night.
Even Helen's sister, with her at the party, noticed the difference in her sis' statuesque appearance. "I thought 'My, Helen's gotten so much taller!' Then I realized it was her shoes. They even sell them in Marks and Spencer now!"
Mirren has singlehandedly made age meaningless when it comes to looking hot on a red carpet. But she has had help from two skilled stylists - New York-based Alicia Lombardini who does her American appearances and Rachel Fanconi in Europe. Click here to read what they have to say about Helen's fashion image and why she looks so darn sexy for an almost 62-year-old who openly admits she has a big bum and never works out.
But you know, Helen wasn't always so good in the fashion department. Check out these shots of some of her past fashion faux pas.
Oh dear, oh dear. Here's Helen at the '95 Oscars. This looks too much like something the real Queen of England might wear. Including the hat! Photo by Ron Galella/WireImage
Helen goes overboard with accessories - something she never does now - at the White Nights premiere in 1985. Photo by Ron Galella/WireImage
Here's a slightly dowdier look on Helen at the BAFTAs back in '93. Helen, you are definitely getting older and you're getting hotter.

That is too funny!! I never thought I would see "stripper" platforms go mainstream. That goes up there with that string dress Rose McGowen wore that year..lol.. Why not!
Is that tat real? Check it out - it's on her hand as she holds a wine glass w/Peter O'Toole. I'm more interested in the tatoo than I am the shoes.
