BREAKING: Comic-Con crowd awoken by Hall H collapse [Sortta]

By Daniel Fienberg

July 24, 11:25 AM

Comicconhallh_240Disaster hits on the first morning of Comic-Con! OK. Not exactly "disaster," really. But the excitement of Comic-Con Thursday (July 24) is so great that the most minimal of events becomes magnified. Or maybe that's just my lack of sleep and food.

Here are the facts: At nearly 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, the back rear draping in the main Comic-Con panel hall -- Hall H for those in the know -- came crashing down, seemingly injuring nobody and seemingly causing no damage. The disaster did, however, mess up Hall H's very consistent black color scheme, producing a discordant visual experience for attendees spinning in circles.

The drapery collapse, made all the more dramatic by the clatter of structural piping, was photographed by several thousand iPhone holders and digital camera wielders who had previously been using their shutterbug skills to shoot teenage girls in "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob" t-shirt (a joke that only fans of Twilight are likely to get).

The fracas caused a collective intake of breath from the crowd, assembled to ignore the panel for Keanu Reeves' The Day the Earth Stood Still before the start of the Twilight-based vampire love. A round of applause also went up for the noble staffers whose vigilance prevented the falling piping from making an even louder noise. Huzzah!

The disembodied Comic-Con voice has warned us that the Day the Earth Stood Still panel will be delayed while event organizers figure out what to do with the undraped drapery.

With every passing moment, the chance of a teenage girl rebellion becomes more plausible.

Stay tuned for additionally vague information as it develops.

Coult the "Twilight" fans be MORE annoying? Maybe that's why even the draping fell... it wanted to get the hell out of there and vomit! For real, it seems always the same people make comments about that piece of crap! Anyone who saw those trailers know it is a B TV movie not even on the level of Smallville!

Just as long as no one's camera with good footage was hurt. Any changes to the schedule, Daniel?

Well, if you're going to be reading it, then just accept it. ;-)

We like what we like...I'm sorry it hurts you :-(

Actually, Sam, the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer is pretty amazing. If the movie is half as good as the books, it should be better than decent. And let's face it, Smallville hasn't been decent in a long time.

The trailers for Twilight look abysmal. But then, so does the trailer for Watchmen that everyone gushed over.

The Twilight series doesn't bother me because until this movie I'd never even heard of it, and even now, if you don't follow it, it's easy to ignore. Pieces of garbage like The 300 and all the CSIs, that everybody seems to love, are far worse because not only do people go on about them all the time, but they influence the way a lot of other stuff is made (e.g. CSI's moronic editing style is everywhere, that hack Snyder is being allowed to ruin Watchmen).

Twilight will get more hate because it's oh so cool to hate anything "emo" and anything teen girls like. I mean, what exactly is "Sam" so annoyed about? Girls wearing T-Shirts with names on them? How is that even close to, say, people dressing up like Storm Troopers or Star Trek aliens?

Kublai- I agree in that the trailer for "Watchmen" wasn't very well put together (that damn song is still stuck in my head). I enjoyed it because it appears he is trying to get all aspects of the plot into the movie. I will be very disappointed if the slow-motion is over-used in this as it was in "300", but it is exciting to see how ambitious he is.

Getting back to the subject of the disaster ... well, a fellow journalist did get hit by a beam and was rushed to the hospital with a concussion. So, high drama in Hall H.
