Well, fellow Misfits, we're heading into that glorious time of the television schedule: Fall sweeps! Sure, given the fragmented nature of television viewing, this period means a little less that it used to, but nonetheless shows strive to pull out all the stops in order to maximize their most important asset: creativity. And by "creativity" I mean "advertising revenue."

We Misfits love Halloween. It's up there with Darwin, Festivus, and System Administrator Appreciation Day. Like you, we spend days, weeks, and in the case of at least one redheaded member of our posse, months planning our outfits each year. But like you, we're feeling the effects of the recent credit crunch on our wallets. No longer can we spend money dressing up like Big Daddy from the videogame Bioshock. Sure, it's fun spending lots of time and money while simultaneously damaging our daughter psychologically for the rest of her life. In past years, we'd be all over that. But this year, cuts need to be made.

The introduction of Fringe into the television landscape brings to the forefront one of the Misfits' favorite tropes: the conspiracy! That's right, that age-old, Rockwell-esque sensation that just below the surface of everyday life lurks something vast and sinister. In Fringe, it's something called "The Pattern," started in the 1970s in a Harvard laboratory and extending from here all the way to Dawson's Creek.

With the Fall season of television finally upon us, we Misfits wants to take one last long back at the season that was. A season filled with as many highs as lows for you sci-fi fans out there. So what we're going to do over the next week is provide you, dear readers, with our personal choices for the best and worst of the last year of television.

Well, fellow Misfits, by now you've had a chance to go out and see Death Race, the remake of 1975's Death Race 2000.

Primeval star Douglas Henshall doesn't have a lot of action-hero work on his resume. As he puts it, "I kind of tended to be on Channel 4 at 10 o'clock at night" in some serious drama or other.

Well, cadets, we're already in the final month of summer. Scary, I know. Some of you have undoubtedly gone away on vacation of some sort since Memorial Day. Others, like myself, well...not so much. But it's a pretty safe bet that you're not on vacation now because, well, you're reading this! Yes, I suppose there's a slim possibility that you're reading this poolside in Aruba, but honestly, don't own up to it if that's the case.
