Producers of the Grammy Awards are planning a tribute to Whitney Houston at Sunday night's (Feb. 12) ceremony.Houston, 48, died Saturday afternoon, a little more than 24 hours before the Grammy show was scheduled to kick off at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich said Saturday evening that plans were under way to have Jennifer Hudson sing a "respectful musical tribute" to Houston.
(The picture above is from the 2010 BET Honors, where Hudson performed "I Will Always Love You.")
"It's too fresh in everyone's memory to do more at this time," Ehrlich tells the Los Angeles Times, "but we would be remiss if we didn't recognize Whitney's remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years."
Houston won six Grammys in her career, including album of the year in 1993 for "The Bodyguard" soundtrack and record of the year for her version of "I Will Always Love You."
The Grammys air at 8 p.m. ET Sunday on CBS.
It was hardly a wardrobe malfunction, but M.I.A. didn't really pick up many fans when she flipped her middle finger at the camera while performing as part of Madonna's halftime show extravaganza. And she even have lost one very important fan: Madonna.
Friday (Feb. 10) on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Madonna talked about the incident -- which has kind of overshadowed her performance.
"I was really surprised," Madonna tells Seacrest. "I didn't know anything about it."
"I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative," says Madge. "It's such a teenager-irrelevant thing to do."
"She wasn't thinking," a member of M.I.A.'s team tells The Daily Mail. "It wasn't any kind of statement."
When someone at the Ark Music Factory uploaded the music video for "Friday" by an unknown teenager named Rebecca Black to YouTube on Feb. 10 last year, they undoubtedly had no idea what kind of worldwide sensation would ensue.Although the video didn't go viral until a couple weeks later (March 11, if you want to know specifically), Feb. 10 shall live on in infamy as the day the world was introduced to the most ridiculous so-bad-its-great music video known to humanity thus far.
From the low production value to the mundane lyrics ("gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal"), from the girl dancing in pink to the random middle-aged man rapping at the end, "Friday" combines so many terrible things together that it becomes incredibly enjoyable.
None of Ark or Black's follow-up attempts have achieved anywhere near the level of success as "Friday," which seems to be an abnormality never to be recreated again. Come on, it was covered on "Glee"! For a way more comprehensive history of "Friday" than you ever knew you wanted, check out Buzzfeed's article on the phenomenon.
All together now: "It's Fryeeeday, Fryeeeday, gotta get down on Fryeeedaaaaay!"
The children of John Goodman, the multi-millionaire who adopted his girlfriend Heather Hutchins in Oct. 2011, have asked a Florida court to rule it invalid. They believe that the whole procedure is simply a way to help him control a large portion of a trust fund estimated at $100 million while passing millions to Hutchins."[Hutchins] stands to gain a minimum of $250,000 a year for as long as she lives, plus she could realize as much as $5 million a year in distributions from the trust," attorney Joseph Rebak tells ABC.
Goodman, the owner of a Florida polo club, is facing D.U.I. manslaughter charges in the 2010 death of 23-year-old Scott Wilson. It was then that Goodman, while driving his Bentley, allegedly ran a stop sign and hit Wilson's Hyundai. Smith drowned in a nearby canal and Goodman allegedly fled the scene.
In addition to the objections from his children, Goodman also is facing complaints about the adoption from the parents of Scott Wilson. Lili and William Wilson have filed a civil suit seeking up to $100 million for the wrongful death of their son.
Their attorney Scott Smith tells ABC, "By way of this adoption John Goodman effectively owns or has direct control of one-third of the trust assets. It cannot go unrecognized that he has adopted his 42-year-old adult girlfriend as opposed to a child in need."
Goodman's civil trial is set to begin March 27 and his criminal trial is slated for March 6. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Daniel Radcliffe, star of the "Harry Potter" films has proven himself to be a good sport about a lot of things, but this goes above and beyond. In the best video clip of the week, Radcliffe reads erotic "Harry Potter" fan fiction on Bravo's "Watch What Happens: Live."In January, Radcliffe's co-star Ralph Fiennes, aka He Who Must Not Be Named read some erotic "Potter" fan fiction in his jammies. In this clip, they show the video of that to Radcliffe, who gamely agrees to read some as well.
Last time it was Voldemort and Harry. This time, Harry confesses his love for Ron. When asked if he read any erotic "Potter" fan fiction, Radcliffe laughs, "I am aware of it, but I don't ... it would be weird if I was reading that at home!" In the second clip, he discusses on-stage shrinkage. Ahem. If you recall, Radcliffe received outstanding reviews for his performance in the stage play "Equus," where he had a ten minute nude scene. Aw, our little boy wizard is growing up!
It's not that we haven't been paying attention to the super-adorable chorus of fifth graders from Staten Island's PS22, but the kids seemed to hit the height of their Internet celebrity last year when they made an appearance on the Oscars and we tuned them out for a while.
They haven't stopped singing, though, as director Gregg Breinberg continues to arrange contemporary pop songs for his students to learn, then films them and puts them on YouTube.
Their latest outing takes a similarly over-saturated entity -- Rihanna's ubiquitous "We Found Love" -- and reminds us of how much we love both those cute kids in the children's chorus and that song. (It grated on us a little there because of the radio over-saturation, but now that stations have moved on to "You Da One" and that Drake duet "Take Care," we can love it again and not worry about hearing it every time we're in the car.)
Check out the video above and let us know what you think about this cover!
Assuming he even has a job in the NFL next season, Chad Ochocinco will have a new name on his jersey. The New England Patriots wide receiver is changing his last name back to Johnson.
The footballer made the pronouncement on his Twitter page on Wednesday (Feb. 8) saying, "I'll be Johnson on July 4th."
Chad's road to his last name has been a problem-filled effort. First of all he selected "Ochocinco" as a Spanish translation of his uniform number 85. But really what this says is simply "eight five."
He also ran into problems with the NFL in 2008. Because thousands of jerseys with the name "Johnson" had already been made, the league told him he'd be on the hook for millions of dollars if he demanded an immediate update for his uniform. So instead he waited a full year.
It is believed that Ochocinco is changing his name back in advance of his July wedding to Evelyn Lozada.

An 85-pound Argentine mastiff Gladiator Maximus, also known as Max, bit news anchor Kyle Dyer in the face on live television. She was doing a follow up story on his dramatic rescue from the ice after chasing a coyote into a Colorado lake.Firefighter Tyler Sugaski, who put on a wetsuit and rescued the dog, was also being interviewed when the attack occurred. In the video, the dog looks calm while Dyer pets him, but then suddenly lunges for her face. The owner was holding him at the time.
Meghan Hughes, spokeswoman for the Denver Environmental Health department, said owner Michael Robinson of Lakewood was cited with failure to have his dog on a leash, allowing a dog to bite and failure to have a vaccinated dog. Max is in quarantine until a hearing can be scheduled.
Death Row records founder Suge Knight was arrested on Thursday (Feb. 9) in Las Vegas after cops pulled over a car he was driving and allegedly found marijuana in the former rap mogul's possession.Police pulled over Knight when they saw him changing lanes and allegedly making a turn without a proper signal, a Las Vegas police department spokesman tells Reuters. Cops also allegedly found less than an ounce of marijuana. Considered a misdemeanor, Knight was released on $2,600 bail.
In 2008, Knight was arrested in Vegas on drug and assault charges, accused of punching his girlfriend and pulling a knife on her. In May 2010, Knight was again arrested on susupicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
"Downton Abbey" star Michelle Dockery, who plays the prickly, outspoken eldest Crawley daughter on the popular British import show, stopped by "The Late Show with David Letterman" Thursday night (Feb. 9) to talk about the final episodes of Season 2, particularly in regards to Mary's prospects.
"Sir Richard Carlyle isn't very popular among the family and the tension is beginning to rise. He can see that there is a closeness that Matthew and Mary have, but of course I can't tell you what happens," says Dockery. "It's forever will-they, won't-they. On Twitter, we've apparently been called the Ross and Rachel of period drama."
"You'll have to wait and see... if anything arises," Dockery giggles, wiggling her eyebrows.
Letterman also asks her about getting her start in acting and Dockery shares the most wonderful story about auditioning for "The Sound of Music" in London's version of Broadway, the West End.
"One of my earliest auditions was for 'The Sound of Music,' the musical in the West End. I got through the first round, got through to the second round, this is to be one of the Von Trapp children. It was to sing, so they put us in a line as the potential Von Trapp children and I belted out 'Do Re Mi' and they asked us each what our names were and what our theatre experience was. Each girl along the line enunciated beautifully ... and they got to me and I said, 'I'm Michelle. I've done lots of shows 'round Essex but I ain't done nothing 'round the West End.' There wasn't a lot of room for a cockney girl in 'The Sound of Music.'"
Hilarious. "Downton Abbey" airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on PBS.
