'Star Trek' fan resigns from political job with Klingon resignation letter
This one is definitely a win for "Star Trek" fans everywhere. David Waddell, a councilman from Indian Trail, N.C. is leaving his position after sending a resignation letter to Mayor Michael Alvarez written entirely in Klingon.
Waddell meant the letter to be an inside joke, according to the Charlotte Observer, but the mayor didn't seem to get it. "It's an embarrassment for Indian Trail, and it's an embarrassment for North Carolina," he says, labeling the note childish and unprofessional. Some people just don't know how to have fun.
Waddell, who will vacate his council seat on January 31, resigned over concerns he has with the direction of the town. He's also planning to work on a write-in campaign for a U.S. Senate seat.
The letter itself is only four sentences long, giving his final date on the job and ending with a variation of a traditional Klingon proverb, reading, "Perhaps today is a good day to resign." How he isn't the mayor of the town is anyone's guess.
Check out his full letter below, in Klingon and English.
