Soap star Miss Venezuela Monica Spear, ex-husband murdered, daughter injured but alive
Miss Venezuela 2004 and actress Mónica Spear was murdered during an attempted highway robbery while on vacation in Venezuela.
On Monday (Jan. 6), the TV star's car broke down in the Puerto Cabello-Valencia highway in Caracas, Venezuela, and highway robbers shot and killed Spear, 29, and her ex-husband, Henry Thomas Berry, 49, TMZ reports. The former couple's daughter, Maya, 5, was shot in the leg, but she survived the attack and is in the hospital.
According to police, the family got into a small accident that stranded their car and armed men approached the vehicle while they were waiting for a tow truck. Spear, Berry, and Maya locked themselves inside the car, and that's when the assailants opened fire.
Spear, who lived in Miami, won the title of Miss Venezuela in 2004 and participated in Miss Universe 2005 in Thailand. She starred in Venezuelan soap operas before breaking into the U.S. market by starring in Telemundo's "Flor Salvaje" in 2011.
