'Game of Thrones' Richard Madden got frostbite during 'Klondike' production
Richard Madden no doubt dealt with some strange conditions during his time on "Game of Thrones" as Robb Stark, but his new miniseries, "Klondike" on Discovery Channel, exposed him to something entirely different: frostbite.
During an appearance on "Good Morning America," Madden says that the show, which shot in Alberta, Canada, was almost the death of him. "I did actually get frostbite," he says. "I nearly died genuinely a couple of times."
Madden says the show avoids using CGI as much as possible. "When you see us at the top of the mountain, we were there. When we're in the river rapids, I was in category four river rapids," he explains. "It's exciting, it's just sort of terrifying. You try to convince yourself it's a studio when you're in this real environment in order to get through it, but actually it's not."
"Klondike" premieres Monday (Jan. 20) at 9 p.m. ET on Discovery Channel.
