Drew Barrymore clears up Ellen DeGeneres' 'fat' comment at People's Choice Awards
When Drew Barrymore stepped out on stage at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday (Jan. 8) to present the award for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor, she brought up a backstage moment that mostly confused the audience.
"Ellen DeGeneres told me I was fat!" Barrymore said. "But I'm not, it was a joke. It was really funny!" She didn't get quite the reaction she was hoping for, moving on quickly.
The expecting mom stopped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Monday, where she and the comedienne cleared the air.
"You look beautiful! Doesn't she look beautiful?" DeGeneres asked the audiences. "Why would you walk out on national television and say I called you fat? Why would you do that?"
"Because you did!" Barrymore argued. "Roll the tape." She didn't quite get the proof she was looking for, however. Producers cut to a video of the two backstage at the event, with voiceover of Ellen saying "fabulous" over her saying "fat."
In the end, though, there's no hard feelings between the two.
"And the truth it your joke was super funny," Barrymore said. "The entire room was laughing. I went out and thought I would try it myself and it just flooded and dudded, but you know, that's okay because you pick up and move on."
