'The Daily Show': Jon Stewart tears apart Megyn Kelly's 'white Santa' defense
After Fox News' "The Kelly File" host Megyn Kelly responded to the backlash coming after her "Santa is white" comments, the ball was back in Jon Stewart's court. "The Daily Show" anchor clearly is not buying Kelly's claim that her idea of "white Santa" is a joke.
In the above video, Stewart lets Kelly's own words do the talking for him. After showing a clip of her saying, "I offered a tongue-in-cheek message for any kids watching saying that Santa -- who I joked is a real person whose race is identifiable -- is white" and claiming that this was an "offhand jest," Stewart once again replayed her original comments.
While it might be true that Kelly was trying to make a joke, her deadpan and serious delivery did not make it seem very funny. But, you know, to each her own.
As for Stewart, he says, "I guess we all owe you an apology. What appeared to me to be another example of a Fox News segment expressing anger and victimization over the loss of absolute power and reframing it as a persecution of real America by minorities, freeloaders and socialists -- that's trademarked, by the way -- what I thought was actually a jest, a jape, a bit of wisecrackery. I'm sure if we look at the original clip again in that context I'm sure we all will find it as humorous as it was sincerely intended to be."
What do you think of Kelly's comment?
