'Real Housewives of Atlanta's' NeNe Leakes: What caused her blood clots?
Back in November, "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star NeNe Leakes suffered a health scare where she learned that she had a dangerous amount of blood clots in both of her lungs. During a visit to "Good Morning America," she opens up about the experience and what might be the cause.
"I was at work, and I started feeling a pain under my right breast that kind of went around to my side and my back. And then the next morning the pain was in those places and on my right shoulder," Leakes explains. "It was really different, and I wasn't feeling sick as in a cold, but I just didn't feel good and something was wrong."
Not everyone in her family was as concerned as she was.
"My husband [Gregg Leakes], on the other hand, kept saying, 'You have gas.' I'm like, 'Really? This is not gas for a pain to be on my shoulder,'" Leakes recalls. "I decided to go to the hospital, and once I was there they tested me, they did a lot of blood work, and then they did an X-ray and a CT scan, and they discovered the clots all over my right lung and my left lung."
Originally Leakes thought that the clots were caused by her excessive traveling schedule, but now she thinks there might be another cause. "They're doing further testing to me to see if it's genetic," she admits, saying that she's on blood thinners right now.
"It was really, really tough," she says. "I'm not 100 percent; I feel like it's about 80."
As for the new batch of housewives on "Atlanta," Leakes admits, "I never thought in a million years I'd say this, but I kind of miss the old girls." So is there someone she doesn't like in the new cast? "Well, you know, I don't love everyone," she says.
