Melissa Joan Hart voting for Mitt Romney earned her death wishes: Watch
Melissa Joan Hart's decision to vote for Mitt Romney might have earned her 15,000 Twitter followers, but it didn't get her love from everyone. The "Melissa & Joey" star admits that people were pretty cruel in their responses to her voting admission.
"After the tweet, I got called every name in the book and told they hope I die, and that they hope my children are gay, which was somehow supposed to be a sort of punishment. People called me words that even on Huffington Post Live I'm not going to say," she tells HuffPo. "The hate was really unbelievable from just saying that simple tweet, from just saying I'm voting. As a [member of the] Rock the Vote generation, I was told my vote counted and I had to get out and do that, so I put out what people were asking. ... I all of the sudden was a devil. It was amazing."
She might have been a Romney supporter, but Hart says she has good will for Barack Obama as well. "Look, he's my president and I respect him and I think he's an amazing man. I, in the beginning, did want to vote for him first time around, but fiscally where I stood I just feel like we needed a businessman in the office," she says. "It had nothing to do with what everyone else says about what Republicans stand for."
Hart opens up about other elements of her life in the interview, including her "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" addiction ("I'm a newshound, so I have to escape from it in some mindless way," she says. "I got hooked early.") and "Dancing With the Stars" being much harder than she expected. She also thinks Miley Cyrus is a bit overrated at the moment.
"I think Miley Cyrus is getting way too much attention for one performance piece that was shocking yes but I don't think it was that shocking. I think Madonna did it 20 years ago. I think Britney Spears did it 10 years ago," Hart says. "I think it's just a little bit too much exposure for one piece."
