Kirstie Alley livid with Melissa McCarthy over 'Mike & Molly' storyline
National Enquirer claims that Alley considers the new direction of "Mike & Molly" to be a direct slight to her. Because McCarthy's character talks about wanting to pursue a career in musical theater and because in her new TV Land series Alley plays a musical theater star, she reportedly considered this to be a personal insult.
"Kirstie was flabbergasted. She feels like the sudden plot change is a slap in the face," a source tells National Enquirer. "She's not taking the adjustment to Melissa's character lightly. She now sees Melissa as her competition -- and has let her know it."
The insider adds, "With vehicles like 'Veronica's Closet' -- in which she gained a lot of weight -- and 'Fat Actress,' Kirstie felt she became everybody's funny fat lady. That is, until Melissa came on to the scene ... Now Kirstie believes that Melissa has crossed the line with the new plot line on her show."
Of course, this could all be a bunch of BS. Alley's publicist denies the claims, while another source says the antagonism is entirely one-sided. "[McCarthy] feels it's the more the merrier as far as flabby funny ladies are concerned," the insider says.
