Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus bond over 'American Horror Story'
Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus sat down with Billy Bush on "Access Hollywood Live" Friday (Oct. 11), partially to promote his new single, "Hope Is Just Ahead" -- but mostly to be grilled about the shenanigans of his daughter, Miley Cyrus.
Here are the Top 5 things we learned about Miley via Billy Ray:
1) Miley and her dad bonded over "American Horror Story."
"Last night, Miley had just got in from New York, and came to the house, and she and I watched 'American Horror Story.' And it was so fun. We sat there and laughed -- it's a pretty scary show, you know. This is the first time I'd seen it, and Miley had been saying 'You gotta see this show; you gotta see it.'
And I saw a commercial and it scared me. And I said, 'Oh man, I gotta see this thing. And so we sat on the couch last night and watched that, and it was great ... to see Miley just being a kid there on the couch, watching a good, scary show."
2) Miley is basically the next Dolly Parton.
"She's got a lot to say, musically, as an artist. It's hard for me at times. I look at her -- that's still Miley, it's still my little girl, still my daughter. And then on the professional side, it's a singer-songwriter, entertainer, actor. I look at her and go, 'She learned from the best. She learned from Dolly Parton, you know.'"
3) Miley's dad refuses to look at her raunchy Terry Richardson photo shoot.
"I've not seen the pictures, so I really can't comment." When pressed by Bush if he has "purposely" not looked at the pics: "Yeah, I haven't seen 'em. Billy, trust me -- I've been so busy. A lot of the questions, and a lot of things, I ... you really need to talk to Miley, to be honest. Miley can answer for Miley. I can only answer for Billy Ray Cyrus. I'm pretty busy with my own life." (Followed by a rant about how he has to take care of Miley's little sister Noah Cyrus, because mom Tish Cyrus is busy handling Miley.)
4) Miley is doing the work of God.
"I pray every day that God will give her the wisdom and the vision to do the things she's supposed to do, to be the person she's supposed to be. We all have our own different path of how that manifests itself. And that's still my prayer."
5) Miley spent her own money on those huge VMA teddy bears.
"I knew that she had went to a great deal of preparation, and even financial investment in all those bears and things that she was going out of pocket for to make that stage great. She said that she wanted people to be talking."
Billy Ray also spent plenty of time insisting on the party line the Cyrus family has been pushing to the press ever since her split from Liam Hemsworth: 'I heard my little girl say "I am the happiest I've ever been in my life."
He also performed his single, which he wrote "the day after Columbine."
