Jennifer Hudson to Chelsea Handler: 'I've never had a drink in my life'
Jennifer Hudson plays a heroin-addicted mom in her upcoming film, "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete," but she doesn't have any substance abuse experience to draw from for the role.
"I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober," Hudson says during an appearance on Chelsea Handler's talk show, "Chelsea Lately."
"I'm like, 'OK, this is new to me,'" Hudson continues. "Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that.'"
Chelsea, who makes no secret about her love for booze or her past with drug abuse, asks the 32-year-old Oscar-winning actress what she's waiting for. "I don't know, I've never been interested," Hudson explains. "Nobody ever believes it ... When I got this role, I was like, 'Oh my God, what am I going to do? What am I going to pull from to play the role?"
During a recent appearance on "Good Morning America," Hudson revealed she spent time with a former addict to channel her drug-addicted character. ""If I don't have anything to connect from, why don't I find someone to connect to," she says.
"The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete" opens Oct. 11.
