'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' casts Castor and Pollux
Chalk up two more cast addition to "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2," as Lionsgate has revealed who will fill the roles of Castor and Pollux, two cameramen who film propaganda films for the rebellion. Wes Chatham will play Castor, while Elden Henson will portray his brother Pollux.
The inclusion of Pollux is an interesting one, as in the books he is an Avox. Avoxes were largely discarded in the first "Hunger Games" movie, except for an unexplained extra while Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) were in their living quarters during training for the Hunger Games.
Avoxes, for those who don't know the books, are people whose tongues were removed after being perceived as traitors against the Capitol. They are unable to speak and put to work as servants. It is later revealed in "Catching Fire" that District 12 peacekeeper and friend of Katniss, Darius, is turned into an Avox after losing his position. His character is not being included in the movies, though.
It will be interesting to see if Avoxes are addressed in the movie version of "Catching Fire" or if they're holding off until "Mockingjay" to tackle that particular topic. At some point it's going to have to be explained what is wrong with them and why it happens. The moment in the books where Katniss finds out the depths the Capitol will sink to is an important one for her character.
As for the actors playing them, Chatham has been seen in movies like "W." and "The Help," while Henson is probably best remembered as Fulton Reed, one half of the Bash Brothers, in the "Mighty Ducks" trilogy. He has also appeared in "Idle Hands" and "The Butterfly Effect," among many other movies.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is in theaters November 22.
